If Rubio makes the 53, the Steelers might have a steal that would be some real beef at NT with Black and Rubio.

Good question, it depends on how well Allar does in the next two preseason games. And how well MR does as well really. Where we are in the standings when AR goes down too

I think it will come down to Mason or Eli ..I know they play different positions ,but it's a numbers crunch..KJ is as good as gone ... If Drew and Will continue to look good it makes more since to me to keep Eli..

I don't see Eli making the 53, he will be lucky to make the practice squad.

I am not sure he can clear waivers ? He. has a lot of skills as a returner as a runner and as a slot WR..His biggest knock was the sytem he played in. I hope they don't risk it to keep Mason..

Oh well, I just don't see a path for him to make the 53.

They are doing it to make a point, one that may be escaping you. It isn't to say Allar is going to turn out like Pickett. It is simply being used as a reminder that getting too excited over a quarterback's play in preseason is a mistake. It is a point well made. I thought you would appreciate that.

That they left him at running back instead of moving him to receiver doesn't bode well. He was a much better receiver than running back in college. He is tough, but I don't think whatever future he has in the NFL is as a running back.

    Hmm 10.5 wins a season during 16 game , and 17 game seasons doesn't equate to 500

    1. The year Pickett looked good in the preseason was his 2nd year not his rookie year.
    2. Pickett only threw about 18 pass that whole preseason, and I believe Allar is already close to that his 1st game.
    3. Allar left pinky has more arm strength than Picketts right arm does

    Simply....
The HC that is on his 3rd Team because he was already fired from two other teams.

That's why he is a backup and not a starter.

    Right?

If most quarterbacks didn't have flaws or limitations, they would already be starters!:smiley1:

This. We could do this to every backup in the whole NFL . We could point out why they are backups, and not starters.

He was banged up in camp and he still got a good amount of reps at RB ...IMO that bodes well for him , he has 2 more games to show his pass catching and return abilities..

I think we will see him in both roles in the next 2 games ..MM likes the WR type RB'S as he moved a WR to RB in GB .. Eli has a good chance to earn a spot IMO ..He needs to look good at all spots .. He can be a BU Slot , a BU return guy and a change of pace scat RB ..

He also played all 4 phases in College on ST'S ,and is #2 as a personal protector behind Homer on the punt Team..

I guess you missed the part about being kept "around" .500, which is surprising because I quoted "YOU"

No argument there, but you know we have a couple of posters here who think Rudolph would take the Steelers to the Super Bowl if they would only commit to him.

Around 500 would be 9, or 7 wins.
Is it hard to say 10.5 wins??
We have actually had three straight years of 10 wins.
Again , I don't think people realize how hard it is to win at least 10 games a year in a 17 game schedule.
There is a reason that only 5 HCs have been to the playoffs 5 out of the last 6 years, and Tomlin was one of them.
Hes gone now, and may McCarthy become the best HC we have ever had, but I don't have to down the past HC to like , and root for the new HC, and I never have understood why others must.
I seen the exact same thing from many when Tomlin became our new HC, and people then downing Cowher, and I didn't understand it then, and now some of those same people now hold Cowher at God like HC levels. LoL

All fair, but none of it undermines the point that it is still wise not to overreact to preseason games, especially in the second half against a bunch of players headed for the practice squad or their life's work.

The steelers were 49-46-1 including the playoffs since the 11-0 start in 2020,so yes he was right

So he only coached since 2020??
LoL. Your specialty, moving the goal post, and , or cherry picking.
I could say the same , well since 2023 he has 10 wins, or from 2007 to 2011 he averaged 12 wins, but Im not you, I actually count the whole time he coached.

again,he was not talking about the entire career of Tomlin. He was outdated in the last several years and it was obvious....Similar to Seattle under Pete Carroll in his last several years. This is possible to be a very good head coach for some time but being not the same coach at the end. Both can be true

You are so excited to argue with me that you did even read what he said , and I quoted. LoL .
You are arguing about something we weren't even talking about. Slowly go back , and read our back, and forth. LoL.
You are always good for a laugh

To me, those should be basic bread and butter plays. Nothing fancy, nothing tricky. Can't wait for the regular season to see what McCarthy has in store for opponents in a real game. I really look forward to a behind the los pass being an exception rather than 50% of the pass plays.

Good analysis OP. The O line seemed to steady itself as the game progressed but I think they’ve got to be more “buttoned up”.

All the QBs looked good for what it was, an exhibition of McCarthy’s QB school I keep hearing about. Let’s see how they look as the competition ramps up and the games become more competitive with better players.

    Go Steelers!
    Go State!
