Blast, just wondering where you get your odds from? I'm not seeing Pittsburgh as the favorite on any of my betting sites?

Yeah, I noticed some discrepensies when posting along side your picks. The pool uses CBS Sportsline. The pool is set early in the week and doesn't change, CBS now has the Steelers as a PK, so only a little off now. They started out as +1.5.

Well I'm glad I got the Steelers at +2, although I wish I could have got Philly at -2.5

We'll see how our bets do. Last weekend was a brutal one for me

Good luck, Shaner. I don't do sports betting personally as I don't really have the nerve for it.

It's definitely a marathon and not a sprint and required discipline sometimes. Thought it might be fun to see what others are betting on.

I'm 5-3 so far, not great, but not bad by any means. Last weekend was awful for me, I lost a lot of money.

I meant to change my pick today to the Colts, didn't make it in time. I usually hate changing my picks but I dont know what I was thinking taking the Giants in this game.

So you guys didn't win any money this weekend? You are just like trying to position yourselves to win money at the end of the season? I don't gamble so I don't know anything about this at all. I just sorta thought that people would bet from week to week and win or lose. I guess the closest I've ever been to organized gambling is that I've seen a ball board in a gas station. Do you guys even know what that is? It is usually just where you can win like a gun or something for getting a college game right. LOL. I always think of ball boards as sorta redneck gambling.

It's both for me. You can win the weekly but all your wins are totaled at the end of the season and you can win money that way too. Last year I placed 4th.

No, I have no idea what a ball board is. Jeff Foxworthy could probably use that in his skit though.

LOL! I'm sure he could! A ball board is like this thing where you pick certain numbers and they have to show up on the score or something like that and if you pick the numbers that are best represented by the score you might win like a 30-30 or a few hundred dollars or some skoal or some Duck Dynasty merchandise.

Yes, I've won a lot of money so far and if Indy covers then I'll win tonight too. I bet a lot on college sports too. So far for next week (NCAA) I have

    Arizona State - 1.5
    Texas A&M +22
    Iowa State to win outright

But when it's all said and done do you actually profit or do you just sorta break even by re-betting what you win and then losing that? Also do they have ball boards in Canada?

I make a profit long term. I'm batting about 60%, but what really makes me money are the big wins I get sometimes. I won $3,000 when I bet $200 on the Boston Bruins to win the stanley cup a few years back. There's ups and downs though. Have to be patient and disciplined, not chase losses.

I don't know what a ball board is

What do you mean by "chase losses"? Maybe ball boards really are just a southeastern US thing.

99% of my bets are based on the size of my bankroll (my online sports betting account). Each bet is 1% of what my bankroll is. Last weekend I got killed and lost a lot of money. It's tempting to try to make it back by betting more than I normally do on "sure things." As we all know, there is no sure thing in sports. So I need to decrease my bets a bit this weekend because my bankroll is smaller and I want to stick with each bet being 1% of what my bankroll balance is. So I can't try to recoup the money I lost by betting extra on other games, that's a common mistake

It basically means betting more than you normally might in hopes to recoup the money from a recent loss or losing streak.

OH! Well that makes sense. Does the legality of this stuff vary from state to state? Like if your state doesn't have a lottery or casinos you can still bet there?

I actually have no idea. I'm not really a betting man. I am pretty good at poker though.

My supervisor at work seriously quit a job once because he thought he was gonna be a "professional" poker player! That just seems so crazy to me that someone could think they are a "professional" at a game where it is literally pure luck when it comes to what cards you get. I don't know how to play poker though so I could be wrong about that. Does your poker face look like Ben's does in your avatar? LOL!

There's more skill in poker than there is luck. The luck is what cards you get, the skill is how you play those cards. I will consistently beat new poker players, whereas more skilled poker players will consistently beat me. Professional poker players are professionals because they consistently win.

As for state laws, yes, different states have different laws with regards to sports betting. Online sports betting is very tightly controlled in most of the US. I'm in Canada though. Sports betting is pretty much a free for all up here
