I know he didnt exactly turn the Broncos into the 94 Cowboys but he is one coach that really helped the organization other than the WR coaches we have had.

I am not talking box stats of rushing ypg and QB sack ratio but the development of personnel that were not all rated top 5 by Kiper or whoever that he optimized as a mesh of strength.

We can speculate and debate forever if there are other factors but its tough to argue that even with age and decline and conditioning....we would have been more balanced.

I keep saying how I need to subscribe to the All 22 again but a lot of LBs were hitting the point of attack on guard pulling plays quicker then the TE and guard could get there.

Maybe there was a formation and personnel package that good film study by the opposing DC was able to sniff out the tendency but I just strongly feel this would have been addressed in season.

    Thoughts?

I'd brink Munch back in a heartbeat. No question.

It wasn't just the LB's hitting the point of attack. It was the DL pushing our linemen back, shedding blocks, and disrupting the play before it got started. Our backs were spending time avoiding our linemen who were not only not making holes, but getting in their way to those non-existent holes.

And I would contend that this was a problem manifesting itself the previous season, not just something that happened this year.

We were running the ball well the beginning of the year, not because of better line play, but because of no one knowing the tendencies of this offense with quick-draw #7 at the helm. No defense ever dealt with Ben leading the league in release time. It took them half the season to figure out that he couldn't move, wouldn't take snaps under center, couldn't execute play-action, and that our OL couldn't hold the line of scrimmage against a high school team.

This organization had basically 2 seasons to address the issues with the OL. They did absolutely nothing.

Fans forget the Steelers running game wasn't great in Munchak's last season with the Steelers.

Munchak's daughter moved to Denver, he wanted to be closer to his grand kids.

Let Mike Munchak go folks, he isn't coming back, unless his daughter moves back to Pittsburgh

I think he was in the middle of the pack his entire time here. Still a lot better than last. From an article I read recently:

But this narrative that Munchak was the savior of the Steelers running game is a myth. During his five seasons as a Steelers assistant, the Steelers running game ranked No. 16 in the NFL in 2014; No. 16 in 2015; No. 14 in 2016; No. 20 in 2017; and No. 31 in 2018.

Munchak was able to come in with some real great talent already seasoned but still early in their careers. And those players bought in to what he was selling, rightfully so. Perfect matchup and he got the most from them. Sarrett was left with old dogs with zero bite ,and Klemm will have to build it up all new again, with his guys.

You realize the Steelers were 3rd from the bottom in rush success rates?

There were 2 teams below them...one was the Broncos...

Take that as you wish. Heard that on a podcast.

He was a great O-line coach however I think the decline of the run game has more to do with the age of the guys on the field than who’s coaching them during the week.

Look how he turned around a defensive end into a solid left tackle. Unfortunately father time has caught up to AV.

I wished him well when he left on his terms and applaud him moving to be closer to his Grandkids.

He was a solid presence coaching the Offensive Line.

Sometimes you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink. This is the story with Sarrett. Just an assistant and not a coordinator as we found out. Now Klemm. The jury is salivating. Hope he can inject some physicality into the finesse...

I miss his ability to develop Swiss Army knife guys that you can plug in anywhere on the OL and not miss a beat

That was the biggest indicator to me of Munch’ influence. AV’s play immediately fell off after he left.

Fair point. I guess his development of project guys and making them serviceable is the metric I now appreciate more than ever.

I would Love to see a taped practice from the Steelers it's probably a bunch of ass grabbing and joking around ... No Coach with the perception of being strict last Munch probably forced these guys to shut up , learn , and then practice what they learned instead of playing grab ass ...

You play the way you practice...We play soft so you do the math..

Ranked in what statistic? Yards per game? Yards per carry? Successful run percentage?

The last one is the most meaningful, the first almost meaningless.
