And how's that working out for ya? It's made a huge difference right? Oh wait, apparently it hasn't since you're complaining about it. Thanks for proving my point.

Yeah i get it. It's always easier to go doom and gloom and point to the sky falling than to use a little rational thinking. Hey since the D is struggling and the offense seems to be doing a better job this season let's switch the offensive players to the defensive side! amirite??

So, we've had a game where Legs was the starting Center and Pouncy was starting at Guard?
Pouncy would be a pro bowler at guard just like he is @ center. Legs plays center pretty well. Better than Colon or Forster play guard.Kind of addition by subtraction. If DeCastro comes back you would have two of the most athletic guards in the game Wich would make Legs an even better center.JMHO

Nah you missed my original point. My gripe wasn't about moving Pouncey to guard. It was about how people were calling for changes that didn't need to be made. Thinking we could simply plug guys from the PS in or start rookies that weren't ready for the game yet (at least as a starter) as well as swap player positions around would somehow magically fix our problems. Making drastic changes, especially this early into the season when you have a new offense and new players trying to learn the system and gel with the rest of the line, is knee jerk and silly.

Me asking how that's worked out for ya was me replying to your statement that we mix up player positions every week. I basically stated that it wasn't a good idea to swap player positions around in the manor that some were suggesting and with you basically arguing that our o line isn't very good as well as making that statement about us making position changes on a weekly basis simply made my point imo.

    He was also good.
We miss more than just a beat. We miss a huge beat. People admire Legs' effort and little-guy-putting-up-the-tough-fight thing, but he simply can't do anything as well as Pouncey. Not one aspect. He can't run block as well, pass block as well, pull as well from any position, he's not even on the same planet as Pouncey when it comes to handling bigger guys or guys with brute strength, and he can't play consistently like Pouncey. Shoot, Pouncey has one weakness -- injuries -- and Legursky even has that too! Mike Mayock went off about how he can play "all three interior positions at a high level," but that's a huge load of crap. When he plays his absolute best, he's a good backup. When he plays his worst, he's not even that. And he plays with no consistency, which is kind of a big deal for a starter. Forcing our all pro center out of position to get our 6th/7th best OL on the field is just asinine. If our backup center was Nick Mangold? Then maybe we could talk. And there'd still be no guarantees; we'd still have to figure out who does better at each position before we just shake guys around for the hell of it. Add to that Legursky isn't just not Nick Mangold. He's not even as good as any one of our starters, and by the end of the year will probably be the 8th best lineman we have, after DeCastro gets healthy and Adams surpasses him.

This entire idea is nothing more than trying to be cute where cuteness won't do us any good. To me it's like this: "Hey, I love that Amos Zereoue guy, and our running game is struggling. With Jerome Bettis' size and power, he'd probably make a great fullback! How about we put Bettis at FB and start Amos at RB? That way we get to utilize Zereoue's speed and Bettis' power! Both guys on the same field!" Yeah... except Bettis is a Hall of Famer in his prime and Zereoue is a career role player/borderline starter/special teamer. And this is coming from a guy who genuinely loved Zereoue and would have loved to see more. That's a generous comparison, because Zereoue was a better running back than Legursky is a lineman, and RB/FB are positions (unlike the OL) where you can switch guys up from time to time or on any given play, so you could actually do that sometimes. Moving Pouncey for Legursky is just not a good idea on any level.

what are all these significant changes we've made that you speak of on offense?

the ravens have moved several people to different positions on their line and it has seemed to work very well for them. oh and they brought a rookie LB up from their PS last week and he played in the game and did pretty well. the browns brought a WR off their PS last week and he had a very good game for them. this would be the time to do it since it's the first year for everyone in this offense.

unprepared or not, if our starter is getting beat off the snap every snap and can't get to where he's supposed to fast enough, do you really think that a PS 300lb. guy would do worse if he only was athletic enough to do what the starter can't? i just don't see your logic in not wanting to try these guys we have sitting around and are also paid. we kept them for a reason i thought. repititions are not making colons feet any faster. repititions are not making max's or fosters feet any faster or their arms any stronger, so bad gelling is still bad. it's player athleticism thats lacking not knowledge.

Actually Snack I think you have some things wrong....Per the reports I have heard Big Doug is one of the Strongest OL on the Team..I also see that when I watch the tape...Doug seems to play as well or better than Pouncey when Covered up....

According to the grades on Steeler Depot Big Doug grades out better than Pouncey when he is covered up....Our #1 rival is the Ravens so if this info is even close to correct then it would be a great option to put Doug at Center...

Another huge thing to consider is the amount of 1 RB sets we run from a side car....The play is a designed draw/trap with the Guard doing the pulling....If we run this set 30% of the time then why would you not want Pouncey as the guy leading into the hole??

Another thing I think you fail to realize is that Guards have a lot more value than Centers in todays NFL.....Looking at a bunch of spread,Ace,1 RB sets, and even empty sets the Center is the primary blocker almost never.....However, on slip screens,Screens,Power plays,Traps,Smoke Screens,End Arounds,Counters the Guards are the Primary blocker....The Center is used mainly to just stop the back side persuit...

This is not the days of Dawson when the Toss Sweep and the Quick pItch where the primary bread and Butter plays.....This is also not the days when almost every LB ran 4.6 or more and almot every DL was over 5.0 second Forty times....This was huge as it allowed a Fast Center to get out in front ,but those times have changed....The only way a Team can use the Center to pull effecyively is if they have 4 Good to Great OL around him....

The bottom line is you simply don't see guys pull more than 2 gaps away very often anymore,,,and the guy who is uncovered is not the guy you want to pull....He is the cut off pursuit guy or the next level guy,,,either way this keeps Pouncey from doing what we need to do...No need having him block a LB when the RB is getting hit in the backfield.....Make no mistake these guys are coming right over top our Guards,,,,So if you believe in Pouncey why would you not want him in the best possible position to help the Team overall??

Oh no you didn't! Legs may have the same build as Webster but no where near the talent level.

He's not a good enough player. Not good enough at guard, not good enough at center. I don't want to bench a better player and shift the best player to bring in a guy that I don't think should be on the field at all. I don't think we should be overlooking what he's put on tape for us over the years in order to scratch our inner coach itches.

I didn't say he was as good as Webster  What i was saying was his build wouldn't keep him from being a successful Center.

Are you serious? We have a new OC and new playbook right? Not to mention we moved our starting RT to the starting LG position. And i'm not even going to get into the rest of your rant about throwing PS players and rookies that aren't ready to step up into the mix. He'll let's just throw everything the coaches know about evaluating talent and separating those that are physically and mentally prepared to start out the window and go with your brilliant idea of allowing anyone to step in and give it a go.

    c'mon man!

How about rather than moving Pouncey from center to guard, we trade a first rounder for his TWIN when he becomes a RFA.

i believe these are the same coaches that evaluated the backups we have on the o-line and decided to keep them but not play them. our RG that used to be our starting RT( which by the way, he only started there 3 years ago) can't cut it at LG.

they are all learning the new system together, rookie or vet. 4 of the 5 started together for the last two years. this isn't about gelling, it's about the same guys that are not cutting it. how did these coaches evaluate james harrison as he bounced around the PS. or mclendon? or mundy that they thought was good enough to start when troy or clark were out and now benched?

what if i travel to pick up my dry cleaning and have an accident. in the accident i cut my arm half off and i know i need to stop the bleeding to get to the hospital. in my evaluation i think, if i use my belt to stop the bleeding my pants may fall down and that would be embarrassing, so i'll just keep bleeding and see if it slows down on it's own, because i don't want to use my belt or use the dry cleaning that i just picked up because theres that chance i can still make my function tonight.

I prefer to let the coaches make the decisions mac. You know, the HC that has been to 2 SB's and won 1 already in his young coaching career. Unless you can convince the Rooneys to go with your ideas of course. I'm sure you're like one of those many gems you see on the PS whos talent has yet to be tapped. You're the Steelers next diamond in the rough i'm sure. :lolol:

Legursky is 6-1 315, he is the right size for center height wise and heavier than the average center starting in this league weight wise, so physicly speaking there is nothing wrong with legs physical stats, jeff saturday is one of the smaller centers starting in the nfl but he has done it for a lot of years, nothing wrong with legs size, and the more experience he gets the better he becomes:
Pouncey isnt that impressive this year and his tendency to get caught up in the wash and getting sprained ankles a lot is getting to be redundent....

Yeah because you know what i do for a living right? Besides I never mentioned MY player evaluation. I said the coaches and front office. But of course that doesn't work for you so you turn my words around. I suppose you walk around with a golden aura too, right? Shall we all bow down to you when you enter the forums mac?

Please explain to us all about this dry cleaning, arm cut off, stop the bleeding analogy again. It was brilliant and we need more of this from the all mighty one.
