The Steelers have two second round picks, this guy could be an option at #49.

I wouldn't be adverse at #49, which is the area I see him ranked at. Depends on who we get at 17 and 33, and who else is available.

I highly doubt he'll be around at #32, let alone #49.

I didn't see the Senior Bowl but read a recap on SB Nation that Schmitz's stock shot way up afer this week. They said that he was far and away the best O-Lineman during the week and it wasn't even close.

Yeah, the American side had Torrence, Schmitz, and Steve Avila in the middle of their line, probably the top 3 interior linemen in the draft.
And they managed 1.9 yards per carry. SMH.

line cohesion doesn't really show up in these games. the defense usually has the advantage. the thing is about these 3 is they can move around the interior and maybe the outside if needed. they are just good linemen. shouldn't necessarily pigeon hole them at one spot only. they would up just about any teams O-Line. i wouldn't have a problem with any of them really. :smiley1::cool:

Creed Humphrey lasted until pick #63, and I think he was considered the best center in that draft.

Thank you. If everyone the pundits "rated" in the first round went in the first round, there'd have to be about 87 picks.

I've just heard about 35 people who will be "gone by 17". Take Torrence, for example. He wasn't even as good as Schmidtz at the Senior Bowl, but he'll be gone by 17, as will Schmidtz, as will The big three tackles, the middle linebacker we covet, and the top 5 corners. Oh, and 3 d-tackles. No one, apparently, is going to draft an edge rusher, WR, or QB in the top 17 picks.

Already top 5 if not top 3 in the league. Love Muth and still think he has a lot of upside (if they decide to use it), but Creed is a beast.

Question after all that is said and done is he worth a #17 pick or not? If he's sitting there do you take him or pass? How was our center play this year? Think Torrence will be there at #32? Would be a great way to rebiuled your O line in one draft.

I was under the impression we (should) sign everyone who's released by another team.

There's probably going to be at least one or two people who we currently think will be available easily at 32 or 49 that are also gone in the first 16 picks. Still lots of time. It's not worth looking into until after the first week of FA anyways. For example: If we sign Sutton and someone like Bradberry, then CB all of the sudden went from our biggest need to probably not even being selected at all in the draft.

Draft talk is fun, but really pointless at this stage. We have to get through free agency first.

Alternatively, there will be a couple of people who we think will be gone by 32 or 49 who will be there. And I agree, it's kind of pointless until after free agency, but it's better than hanging out with Benny Lava in the regular threads.

Pass. He is a mid to late 2nd rounder. You take him with pick 49. He is a stud, but a center still.

Outside of our own Free Agents and cheap backup LB/Ends I doubt we sign anyone of worth in defense. Our Defense is already Uber expensive, we need to replenish it with the draft and role/backups only.

Cole was solid at Center and he’s signed on a cost-effective deal for 2 more seasons. He’s not great, but good enough that we should look elsewhere to make more significant improvements in free agency and the draft. If a great center falls in the draft to the point where he’s clearly the BPA when we pick, well then maybe.

Wouldn't it be nice if we had a dominant OL, that would eat up TOP.
Which would open up the play action.

If Torrence or Michael-Schmitz are still on the board at #32, the Steelers need to run to the podium to turn in their pick.

I think they will try to sign Eagles ILB TJ Edwards in FA, possibly a SS if one is available that would be an upgrade over Edmunds. Also a back up QB, that is if we can safely unload Tribusky?
