as we all are... but with an upgrade in the WR room from what was on the roster last year metcalf will produce. i do believe that. let's be real here, that room couldn't have been much worse. and honestly trotting TE smith out as much as they did was of little help in the passing game. i honestly think PF being used more would have helped tremendously. Washington and PF were completely better options in the receiving game that smith.

they are making good moves so far for the passing game. draft a good WR and shore up the left side of the o-line a bit and things look much different this year.

Dude, just stop. It is clear what you were doing there. That's not paranoia. You followed my post with that one and you have been stalking me across multiple threads for days trying to pick a fight. You even lied and claimed that I sent you a PM when I did not. Why would anyone believe you when you claim that post wasn't directed at me?

I would take that bet and happily take your money if there was any way to prove it. Pickens has far better hands than Metcalf. He is a better player. He also has never been suspended by the league, as Metcalf was for two games this past season.

You obviously don't like DK and your agenda is clouding your judgement. @buzz998@buzz998 agree 100% with your post.

Pickens is good, but trying to paint this picture that everything was overblown and caused by the Steelers media is laughable.

I don't like that he got himself suspended with his immature behavior. I believe he cost the team the game against the Browns, which in turn, cost them the opportunity to rest their starters against the Ravens. That hurt them in the loss to the Texans.

I don't like that he had a killer drop in the playoff game, and quite a few during the season. Allowing a defender to rip a ball out of his hands for an interception against the Bengals, for example, was a key reason they lost that game.

I actually like Metcalf far more than Pickens. Metcalf seems to work his ass off. I don't notice him taking plays off the way Pickens does. He is a far easier guy to like, but Pickens is a much better player.

Fair enough...but that is a small sample size, no? Granted the ramifications were far more polarizing than what Pickens did. Pickens also did it over 3 years. Point being, that lets give DK another year to see how it plays out.

I'm not sure I would consider it a small sample size when you consider Metcalf's history of on-field incidents, including ejections from previous games. This didn't come out of nowhere. He has shown that immature lack of self control throughout his career.

No it's not. The media has lied several times on others players here. Heyward literally has to call them out. And there's many many other stories from other players.

Yet you believe they were truth telling on pickens?

IMO, the argument shouldn't be over DK OR Pickens.

We should have (1) acquired DK AND (2) kept Pickens until at least the end of his contract. I don't think we would have tagged or extended him. But his tag is $27.3MM...and we're paying Pittman $24MM this year too ($22.7MM signing + $1.3MM salary). So cash is the same (even though cap hit / structure is completely different).

If we did this last year, we could have had a much more dynamic passing game. This is something that Smith did have in one of his years in TEN.

I don't think Pickens would have had the same production as he did with the Cowboys (so an extension could be cheaper and maybe the tag wouldn't have been necessary).

I do think that DK would have been better (re: efficiency). Maybe have even had more yards if teams had to defend against more than one guy who could catch.

And perhaps most importantly, the offense wouldn't have been so fragile because the loss of one guy wouldn't have meant the end of the passing game.

The good news is that Kahn (or perhaps the addition of MM instead of A Smith/Tomlin) seems to have realized that this year (3rd time's a charm).

Player relations was supposed to be Tomlin's super power. And maybe Pickens really did need a change of scenery. But what I really think he needed was a QB that was good at passing. Same thing that caused DJ to go crazy IMO.

The DK Metcalf rule.... Will it pass? :)

    https://steelersnow.com/nfl-considers-rule-change-after-dk-metcalf-incident/
The NFL competition has proposed a rule change that might have seen Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf get ejected from his team’s game against the Detroit Lions last year.

The competition committee put forward five potential rule changes and three bylaw changes on Tuesday. Those changes will be voted on by the NFL owners at their annual meeting in Phoenix next week.

One of the five rule changes would allow the NFL league office to consult with on-field officials about potential ejections for flagrant football or non-football actions, whether or not the play was flagged by the officials. Currently, the league office can only consult on plays where a flag is thrown by the on-field officiating staff.

Metcalf shoved Lions fan Ryan Kennedy in the first half of a game between the Steelers and Lions on Dec. 21, after Kennedy had been heckling Metcalf.

I'll take DK over Pickens 8 days a week.

Yes, DK can be volatile on the field.

However, he shows up every day, shows up every play, on time, and ready to go.

That may have been Dulac making stuff up, which I think he does at this point, or it may be agents or team officials using the media to put false information out there. The media isn't one monolithic thing. It is an array of individuals and organization with a wide variety of priorities and levels of integrity.

Except those games when he got himself suspended, costing the Steelers a game and leaving them a missed kick away from being knocked out of the playoffs. Pickens is also a much better player.

It really was a failure by Tomlin. I think he is the one who pushed for them to move on from Pickens. He didn't want to deal with that for his final season in Pittsburgh.

I agree that they should have kept both of them. Despite claims to the contrary, Smith has run an NFL offense with two productive receivers, though it really was just the one year in Tennessee.

Pickens lack of maturity in plain view leaves little doubt about his maturity behind the scenes.
