All I can say, is that I don`t necessarily believe, he should have been a back up last year..
    And if/when, he isn`t a "back-up"... I believe he very well could be a pro-bowler.
We won`t know, until we give him the chance.(or the Pack does)
Who do we have better? Hampton?
    Yes, he WAS...
    GO STEELERS!

    GB still has BJ Raji??

why would Mclendon want to go there and continue to be another back up , where if he stays in Pitts he'll most likely be a starter?

The issue is they have him and probation boy going into the season. He's projected to be the starter.

Somebody has dropped the ball, this could be a horrible loss going forward.
I am really starting to wonder about things.

To the poster that called McClendon money hungry... The Steelers have really mistreated McClendon for a while now. They haven't done anything horrible but the guy has looked like a beast when he's out there and they refused to give him a shot until now. I wouldn't be surprised if he's just tired of the Steelers crap... (think Mike Vrabel).

Maybe GB wants McClendon as a DE and he gets time there.

Either way, the Steelers have royally F'd up this offseason. Maybe this will make some of you that think Tomlin, Colbert, and Co. sh*t daisies second guess something.

Cut Gay and Foote:butcher:, Mclendon would be here longer than both of those goats combined, why throw money away on garbage when we need a NT NOW!!

Sylvester or Carter could do a better job than Foote( at this point of his career) and those 2 are already on the books.

As for Gay just put out a pylon, that would do a better job. Maybe somebody in the FO is trying to get fired and this is their way of doing it.

This falls on Lebeau too, he's the one sitting the future, when the future shows a flash of promise, then it's too late to resign them. They should've been put in place at least a year ago. The team could've sign them to 5 years contracts for peanuts. This is how they did it in the past. ( cheap labor!!!)

Exactly!! I think it's Lebeau's stubbornness that did it. This team is being too loyal to the guy and it's going to hurt the team. We see that the offense is young, but the D hasn't done much.

Looks like they should have listened to this guy:

    http://espn.go.com/blog/nflnation/post/_/id/73583/steelers-put-low-tender-on-steve-mclendon

They knew Mclendon would be the starter, it is stupid to put a low tender on him. In this case you need to make a hard decision and cut some guys to make sure the more important guy (Mclendon) stays on the team.

It could be his DRIVE performance that set him back a year or 2, (or 1 Lebeau year which = 6 years ) :frustrated::shots::noose:

I think he was the most productive defensive player for the steelers per snap played. He is a great player, I don't know why the steelers kept playing fat hampton instead of him. Seriously, we can't lose him. Otherwise, the starter would have to be DUI Taamu.

That's fine but we cannot hold on to our picks. They either leave when it RFA time or the next year.

Who have we lost that we shouldn't of? You can make a case for Lewis but they probably feel and I agree with them that Cortez is as good or even better, so financially smart move there. Who else? Harrison? Yeah, sentimental reasons mostly but we have a kid in the wings that is about time to see what he can do, another smart financial move. Who else? Money hungry Mike? We should have paid him what Miami did? Sanders didn't go anywhere, I'm confused by all the FO doesn't know what they are doing bs. All McClendon has done is visit with GB, no offer sheet as of yet. I'd say Tomlin, Colbert and company sh*t more daisies then lincoln logs.

The Steelers know what they have in McLendon. I believe since Hampton was playing pretty well they didn't want to expose McLendon by having him on much film makiing it easier to to slip him pass possible suitor during the FA period. Now if hampton had played poorly or got injured and forced Mclendon onto the field he would have recieved a 2nd rd tender.

I agree that Cortez looks better, but Ike is pretty much done and I was looking at Lewis as his replacement.

Of course I watch the games that's how I know Foote is garbage and Gay will be garbage, why waste money on a guy when you have 2 guys as equal or better than Foote? ( 3 yrs $5.5 million ) They could've saved that money for other areas and to match offers.

VERY Glad to hear we have McClendon for three more years!:applaud:
However, if I`ve said it once, I`ve said it a million times...
I HATE thinking about the business side of this "game"...
Thank God, Omar Khan, and co., know what they`re doing, but it is very confusing to me, how we can be so pressed tight up against the cap(700,000 last I heard), but we can still pull this off...
I would guess we can put to rest any thoughts of Ahmad Bradshaw, or Steve Breaston, which is fine by me, if it means we keep McC...
But where does the money come from to sign our draft picks???:hmmm::shrug::dizzy:...

Again, I just like watchin grown men try to kill each other on the field.
Tryin to figure out how to pay all the ones I want on my team, is beyond rocket science, to me...
Just glad our old-school front office knows how to get it done ;)
Even while I ***** about bringing "re-treads" back... LOL...
    GO STEELERS..
P.S., the article DA Stellars, linked to, about 7 posts above, points out the gambles they take.. and you gotta scratch your head about some of those moves(Like tendering BOTH Dwyer and Redman),... but,
At the end of the day, I would say they get it right more than wrong, even if I have no clue how their process provides their desired results!!!:wizard::yeehaw::drinks::herewego:
