He's backpedalling. Everyone knows Jarvis doesn't have a bullrush and isn't quite good enough against the run. But saying he's not putting in the effort, and saying he gets thrown around like a rag doll are both fantasy. A pretty crappy fantasy if you ask me, but some fans feel better by putting their team/players down. Just how it is.

I'm not sure I've seen him "thrown around like a rag doll", but I've seen him pushed 20 yards behind the pocket by OTs on what seems like a regular basis. It's like he can't disengage once he locks up and they have their way with him. He just doesn't seem quick enough to get to the edge and seems too weak to go aggressively inside.

I thought maybe he had some insight on JJ's training. Everything I've seen so far says that JJ is getting after it. Guess you just can't please some fans.

20 yards behind the pocket on a regular basis ? I think that might be a huge exaggeration.

More often than I've seen him beat the OT to the edge. How's that?

Heck ,the opposing OL must be in great shape to run a guy 20 yard behind the pocket on most plays.

Have to give Jack credit, he's bringing it down, it used to be that they were pushing JJ out to the parking lot.

no there is plenty of tape that jared allen can be run on. thats the weak part of his game. he also disappears for long stretches. thats well documented. jj was playing much better against the run last year compared to his rookie year. timmons took time also to get stronger. so did harrison. with a wrist injury last year it probably didn't do him any favors in the weight room as he rehabbed either, so he's got time to get better. most coming out of college don't have a full array of pass rush moves. they are also going mostly against the top payed linemen on the field. it's a work in progress and that's ok. our whole defense at this point is a work in progress.

:this!: Thanks for a better choice of words. For the record, I never said he didn't train. Said he has not shown or I haven't seen enough strength that is needed for an NFL outside linebacker. Hope that changes, but like I have said, I believe it when I see.

One of the steelers beat writers were talking about Jones at the start of last year when he was healthy and he said he didn't remember seeing Jones get pushed around preinjury. I don't keep the games so I don't know if this is true or not.

Im sure Jones has been pushed around, the thing is, so does everyone else. They are going up against bigger men who will more often then not, win that battle. Otherwise you'd see everyone with double digit sacks. People act like Jones is the only one.

And 20 yards past the pocket on most plays. I'm still shaking my head at that statement. If only JJ had Bryant's work ethic/attitude.

For the record, Glenn, I said that I've seen him pushed 20 yards past the pocket (look up hyperbole) on what seems like a regular basis. I didn't say "on most plays" as you state above. The fact is that I have seen him pushed past the pocket more than once and it seems as though he has trouble getting to the edge. A 4.9 40 may have something to do with that. He also seems to have trouble with a bull rush and hasn't shown a strong inside move at this point which could be reflective of single digit reps @ 220 lbs. In other words, I think he's played weak and slow so far which is exactly how he tested pre-draft and I have some legitimate concerns about him at this point. Of course, if you'll give me the name of your rose-colored glasses supplier I may join you in thinking everything's just hunky dory with JJ. He may develop into an adequate OLB, but if he's going to he needs to show it this season!

Or you could just hold off judging until he has a complete season under his belt instead of evaluating his performance in a handful of games against an equal handful of opponents.

I'm just hoping we are not in a position where you can say the same thing a year from now.

It is my hope that NBC, FOX, and CBS have classes on how to pronounce Mar-ta-vis instead of Martell is
