He might. I wouldn't put it past him. I still think he's the best Qb in football.

Again stay on topic. Nobody brought up Fisher but you. We were talking about McVay, and him developing rookie Qbs, and you jumped in talking about everything else. Why, because You can't respond without moving the goal posts. Instead of just shutting up because everyone knows he hasn't developed a rookie Qb, you move the goal post to speak, and then that isn't enough you bring Fisher into it, that Nobody else was talking about, but please go on , move it more. LoL

That he did. No one is saying Kyle didn't miss on Trey Lance. By all accounts, that was a blunder of a move.

That said, it doesn't matter. Kyle Shanahan still has gotten to the Super Bowl even including that blunder. Now, getting lucky with Brock Purdy is a major reason why. However, luck is nothing more than when preparation meets opportunity. Kyle and the 49ers Scouting Department clearly did their homework on Brock and more specifically, how well Brock would fit into Kyles Offense.

Now, would Brock fit into any other NFL Offense?! Maybe Sean McVay''s but that is about it. Again though, the draft is about finding players who will fit into the Head Coaches system. Brock has been nothing short of excellent.

    Perhaps.

Mind you though, Mahomes tore both his ACL and LCL. That is two of four major knee ligaments. I don't doubt today's Medical Science and Technology for it has come a long way since the 2000s.

I am saying though that Mahomes could be out a bit longer than that. However, let us assume you are correct; he is ready to play by August 1st, 2026. Remember that the recovery and rehab time is only half of the battle. Mahomes still needs another couple of months to potentially a year for that knee to be 100% again as the surgery only covers the recovery aspect. The return to form is a bit more.

He’s just giving you grief about that because Tomlin is the undisputed master of developing rookie QBs, and he doesn’t want you to hold the other guys to a lower standard.

I the the Niners knew they were taking a small school QB who had the tools Shanahan was looking for but who would take time to round into shape. The lost year to injury put him behind and Brock Purdy came out of nowhere, literally and did everything asked of him. I give kudos to Shanny for realizing what he had and rolling with it. Other coaches might have stubbornly stuck with their original plan because they were convinced they were right.

Hell yes I would kick the tires on Willis.
I would do more than that.
This team has no one. Sign him and draft 2 WRs , maybe even draft a QB too in the first two rounds.

I mentioned Willis in another thread but, yes, I'd get him. I don't see another FA, pick, or trade option that fits better and, as much as I've enjoyed AR, I don't want him back. The real question is, is Arthur Smith the guy you want calling an offense for Willis? We have lots of picks and enough cap room to add more talent to this team but the Offense continues to be a problem.

I don’t think that would be a bad idea. Heck he’s looked good in the two games he played. I’m sure he wouldn’t command but a small amount of money. At this point anything should be possible. Rodgers will retire and I don’t want to go back to Mason. We’ve tried that many times. I think it’s worth a tryout at least.

I’d like to see a new OC and DC, to be honest. That and Tomlin keeps his nose out of it.

Yes, to get back on topic, I’d like to move on from A-Rod and Willis looked good the other night.

To be honest, the topic was Malik Willis, not Goff or McVay.

Smith needs to GO. His VERY simple play calls are what’s holding us back a lot on offense. He has no creativity. His runs are ALWAYS straight up the middle into the tackles. No reverses or misdirection or swing passes just setup 5-6 yards deep and let Warren or Gainwell run right into the pile. Heck as I’ve said many times Gainwell is the better back and needs to be the lead back then bring Warren in to spell Gainwell.

    Sign Willis, dump Smith.
Agreed , make it happen Steelers.
Willis looked great against the Ravens.
Its funny how players play well in their last season of their contract.
No other QB will give us a better shot next season and we don't have to trade for him.

This. We need a coaching change first. Willis can be productive with an offensive head coach. He will look like Kenny Pickett under 'Lives in His Fears' Mike Tomlin.

Another example similar to Willis is Mack Jones filling in for Purdy when he was hurt. 49ers offense didn't miss a beat with him in there. Jones is not as good as Purdy... Willis is not as good as Love... but they play well in their systems. Steelers have a stagnant offense that is easy to defend no matter if the QB is Trubisky, Pickett, Fields, Wilson, Rudolph or Rodgers. Doesn't matter... end result is the same. Rodgers is just slightly better than those other QBs.

I was dead wrong about Malik Willis. He looks to be a legit NFL QB. He's better than Pickett... obviously. Whoever wanted Steelers to draft Willis over Pickett.... you guys are geniuses. I can't believe I laughed at you guys. :lolol:

Arthur Smith has been problematic but I wouldn't paint him as the complete issue. Mike Tomlin's risk adverse play calling is what was the issue against Cleveland. Even after his fumble, Jaylen Warren averaged 5 yards a carry. Add in the fact that the Offensive Line has been on the up and up in terms of winning at the line of scrimmage the past three weeks, one would expect the Steelers to attack one of Cleveland's biggest weaknesses; stopping the run. Tomlin didn't do this due to that one fumble made by Warren.

That said, how Arthur Smith called the rest of that game was frustrating no doubt. He isn't exempt from blame either. However, I do know that Smith would have continued to feed both Warren and Gainwell had he been given the choice. Tomlin wanted to win through the air against an elite pass defense; a Myles Garrett on the cusp of History no less.

Right now wed have MR and Howard,

assuming AR is gone and we dont have our potential Franchise Qb yet, i would take Willis.

no more AARP Qb’s, except as backups

Arthur Smith and Mike Tomlin were calling few of the plays on Sunday against the Browns.

Aaron Rodgers was doing a great deal of playcalling at the line.

He wrote checks he couldn't cash and the Steelers lost.

...That started when their primary stud (Evans) got injured for multiple weeks. No doubt about it, Baker has balled out for them - their woes are not solely on his shoulders.

Have you watched the Bucs during their second half slide? Baker has been pretty stinky. Like not all totally his fault bad but like the MVP discussion in the open quarter of the season was ludicrous kinda stuff.

I believe the term for Baker's 2025 season is regressed to the mean.

I think the whole team had been playing over their heads, TBF. But Baker is Baker - he's gonna give you those moments. But for the most part since joining them, he's been pretty above-average.
