They don't need to right now. I don't think he'd cost much this year, but they don't need to be under the cap until March 11th.

Ahh, gotcha. Extensions, restructures, renegotiations, and cuts will start soon after the combine I'm sure.

does anyone seriously consider him more than average? i aint sure he is better than anything we have behind clark now. maybe just because he was a lion, maybe he comes here and decides he needs to play better or gets coached better. i really worry about it if we bring him in before the draft. i want a safety in THIS draft. some really good ones to be had

Yes, I think Delmas is better than average. He's actually a pretty good young player who could come in and start right away. I don't think signing Delmas would affect our interest in a FS this draft. Outside of Shark and Troy, we don't have any good options that are starting caliber... and Troy will be gone after this year.

the safety position should look like this in 2014
FS Delmas (if signed) - Pick - Golden
    SS Troy - Shark

    2015
    FS Delmas - 2014 pick - Golden
    SS Shark - 2015 pick/FA

He's definitely a capable NFL starter. Not sure if he is a long-term solution but if that knee can hold up I would pay him to put on a Steelers uniform.

I think we can do both. It's not likely that any safety we would pick up in the draft would start right away anyhow...

I guess we weren't that interested after all. It's probably for the best since he's frequently nicked up.

While he did play 16 last year, a nice rebound he apparently practiced very very little so they could keep him healthy and they also limited the number of snaps he played during the season. He's talented and has alot of passion, but also he's a gambler on balls in the air, sometimes he makes a play other times he flat out misses and a 10 yard reception becomes a 40 yard TD. I have a friend who is a diehard Lions fan and he gave me the rundown on him. Not that it matters since he signed in Miami, but that's for the best. He's also from FL I believe.
