Louis Delmas FS and former 2nd round pick in 2008 by the Detroit Lions was cut today..

He was a pro bowl alternate in 2010 and 2011. He signed a 2 year 9.5M dollar contract and by all indications it was a money move.

Is there any interest? Would he sign for a reasonable offer? He's 26 years old..

I know very little about the $ side of the NFL.

    ScottChab should love this thread..:lolol:

Louis Delmas Safety cut by Detroit

Maybe the Steelers should take a look at him been in the league 5 years and had 3 ints last season. He can't be any worse than Ryan Clark last season.

I figured we'd see something like this posted soon...

The only thing I do remember hearing is he has had some injury issues (to what extent I do not know). However he can be a good player when on the field. Not sure if he can play the 3-4 S position and all that stuff. But its only wishful thinking at this point.

I don't see why we wouldn't at least give him a look. Maybe he wants more money than we can afford, idk... But I do think he could be a decent fit in the Burgh. Then Shark would back up both positions in 2014 and take over the SS position when we let Troy walk after next season.

Well they played the Lions last year. I suppose I could dig up the tape and compare him to Clark but of course I won't.

Anyhow talk about coincidences. I looked up the game logs on each player and they looked identical. But to be honest this game was just an average type game for Clark and for Delmas it was one of his very few better ones at least stat wise.

That nfl.com is really one crappy site. But the stats are 1pass defended and 7 combined tackles each. Not a particularly big day for either player. But Clark is 34 and the other guy is much younger.

Doesn't it bother anyone that almost no players are being replaced? I saw a post the other day someone mocked a WR rd1. Okay that is fine but he inferred it would be easy to get another NT or ILB? etc. Uhh! 14 years no replacement for Hampton or Farrior among others. Easy huh! Free Agents have contributed heavily to the Steelers success since it started. Moreso than many fans think. But in recent years very few have been signed. It just seems that the draft is not enough.

They actually both had big days in the tackles department. If they had 7 tackles every game that would give them 112 for the season. That would be a good total for a LB.

That being said, do you have any interest in Delmas?

I like Delmas. As someone else mentioned, he has had a trouble staying healthy. I dont know that its an issue like Bob Sanders had, but its something to keep in mind.

he might be good but the lions secondary was worse than ours. I would pass and draft one. it would be cheaper and probably just as good

What would you consider a friendly contract? Low years (2/3), and around 3.5-4mil cap hit? I think it would be a good idea if we could work something like that out. We would be able to draft a back up to take over Delmas' FS spot after 2 years or so, and we already have Shamarko to take over Troy's SS spot after next year. We would actually be pretty deep at the position too if it worked out that way.

    FS l Delmas - pick - Golden
    SS l Troy - Thomas

i think is too much for a player that is very good but injuried prone , i would try to offer a little less (2,5 /3 milion) to a player like mike mitchell or anthoine bethea

Interestingly enough, I was just doing some research on Terrence Brooks, the FS out of FSU based on some comments in the Draft Room section and his NFL comparison was Delmas. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1737623/terrence-brooks

I don't know a lot about Delmas but seems like it could be a good signing. Similar to Clark when we brought him in from the Redskins. Not a huge name but an experienced guy that could start and produce from day 1 at a reasonable price. And also means we may not have to go after a safety as early in the draft.

I like Delmas, but as many here
have already commented he can't seem to stay on the field. Only on Steeler terms would I look at him.

He played 15 in his rookie year.. 15 in his second year.. Then he had a MCL sprain that caused him to miss 5 games in his 3rd year. He followed that up by missing 8 games with the same knee in 2012.. Last year he played in all 16..

So he's been injured a relatively few number of times with one injury causing him to miss significant games. I don't think he's as injury prone as many would believe.

so missing 20% of games in a short 4 yr time
    is ok with you?
I think KC addresses this with Lamaar Woodley quite well. I think he says it is a problem.

Woodley's injury history is a bit more wide spread IMO..

Delmas' time missed was all because of the same injury except for the game his rookie year and 1 game the next year. Then he followed it up after the injury by playing in all 16.

    Does that sound injury prone?

Sounds like he had an injury, missed time, got healthy and then competed for the full season after he rehabbed to me.

I'm not advocating signing him, just saying that his "injury history" is a non-factor IMO..

#58 I am not arguing with you, I respect
your football knowledge and passion. I too like Delmas and if the Steelers can bring in any of
these FA on Steeler friendly terms and IMPROVE
our team I am all for it. We have to think out
of the box, times they are a changing.
