i'd say we have to start looking at 1. guys that play in a similar system in college. 2. find guys that have started at least 3 years and more in college. this could help cut down on time learning. they liked that about gay when we picked him. he played his rookie year because he was familiar with our defensive style.

I was just thinking this the other day. Well, about the 4-3 anyway. For the longest time the Steelers were one of the few teams playing the 3-4. Now, how many teams play it (by my count, 12)? The talent pool to chose from is more diluted than ever because so many teams are going to the 3-4. Is there just as much (or more) talent out there for a base of a 4-3? Maybe we just need to throw the base defensive alignment out the window and just make up their own scheme dictated by their opponent?

I'm down with that! Draft some smart guys who can ball. Consistency and durability a plus.
