Even if Allen's injury isn't bad, I'd still think the Bills would be better off with Landry.
He is no Allen, but he sure isn't Peterman either.
Landry career: QBR 86.2, INT % 4.1 (and his 2017 numbers were better)
Peterman career: QBR 29.9, INT % 11.4 (and his 2018 numbers are even worse)

Honestly, this is the second year that Peterson has been the WORST QB in the league and its not even close. I don't know how he is still employed.

Better odds on Bell. Landry is never getting signed. Look at the QB's getting opportunities.

Tip of the cap to @PWP@PWP , said he'd be out of the NFL after Pittsburgh.

I figured Landry would land another BU job, didn't even get that. It's clear that no one thinks of him as a starter.

Odds will be even slimmer after being out of football for a year but hopefully someone gives him a roster spot. Never hated on Landry, he's genuinely a good guy, I just didn't think he was the better QB.

For this year, he was the better option for the Steelers. They chose to roll the dice and hope Roethlisberger manages to stay healthy. Given his experience working in the Pittsburgh offense and building timing and relationships with those players, he was more valuable to the Steelers than he is to other teams.

That the Bills are stupid enough to go with Peterman isn't all that relevant to the point. The only way we will really see if the Steelers were right is if Roethlisberger gets hurt this season.

He doesn't fit a lot of systems out there so signing him to immediately start or backup if he doesn't fit their system is a steep learning curve. If he was a west coast QB or RPO type he would be signed by now. Not a lot of teams that use a spread offense where the QB is most comfortable in shotgun. Really surprised by how much KC runs that style

I seriously doubt they feel that way.

Also, If Ben goes down, it won't prove anything if Dobbs plays bad because we will never know how Landry would have played in his place.

49ers just signed Savage so it isn't just the Bills. People need to accept that Landry just isn't all that good. Good QB's don't sit on their couch or lose their jobs to lesser QB's.

I thought about that, being cut when he was did him no favors but he's still going to be fighting an uphill battle next season after being out of football for a year.

I never said Jones was anything special. He was just their best second-string option for this season. Y'all can claim what other teams do is somehow evidence to the contrary if you like, but that is not correct. The only real evidence would be if Roethlisberger goes down this season and we see if Dobbs can do something of value in meaningful playing time. Jones has done that in a regular-season game. Dobbs has not.

    Plus the Steelers.

When Dobbs gets a comparable sample of playing time, then we'll have our answer if they were right or wrong.

Pretty safe bet that Landry isn't very well regarded as a QB though.

Your is very close to being another way of saying exactly what I've been saying, except that would really only apply if that playing time for Dobbs happened this season. I have no problem conceding that he likely has more upside beyond 2018 than Jones, but the question was this season. The only way to measure that would be if Dobbs has to play this season, though to be fair, if Roethlisberger stays healthy all season, you can say the gamble paid off.

For this season, I think they can only be proven right. If Dobbs plays and wins his game or games, they made the right choice. If Dobbs doesn't have to take a snap, they made the right choice. If Dobbs plays and loses, it's incomplete because we don't know how Jones would have performed in his place.

Meh. It worked for them. He was 3-2, he gave them what you need from a backup.

Yeah, just saw that. It would be strange if we had to play against him at some point.

Of course, I disagree. If Dobbs doesn't get to take a meaningful snap, it proves nothing other than the Steelers got lucky. Given that Roethlisberger had to play through an elbow injury and now he is playing with a broken finger, too, I do wonder if Jones might have taken some snaps already but they know Dobbs isn't ready.

image.jpeg Footage of Landry Jones pre game peering across the field at the team that cut him. Hoping for a chance to cut them back...

I don't think Ben's elbow injury or his current finger issue would be enough of a concern to get LJ snaps if he was here either. Unless you are talking about kneel downs. I'm pretty sure they didn't shun Dobbs in any situations that have occurred to this point with the thought they would of went with LJ if he was here. Everything being the same there isn't a game LJ would of won for us besides possibly the Cleve. games. Which is his specialty....

It's a un winnable argument either way unless someone can invent a time machine that also computes all the different variables involved to come up with a definitive answer....it is Halloween....Ouija board anyone?

Agreed, he's well schooled in clipboarding and taking a knee in the final seconds.
