Maybe they wont. I assume they will roll with Kenny in 2024...

QB is different though. I think it is okay to give up on a first round QB if there are no signs of them being a quality NFL starter after 2 seasons. Especially if we have another option that is better via free agency or the draft. The thing that scares me with Pickett is the overall lack of development. He isn't any better the first 9 games of this season than he was the last 7 of 2022. Not in a single way. That usually doesn't bode well for a player's future at the QB position. It takes some people time... but there HAS to be development and we aren't seeing any.

Why? I'd be surprised if they have. We were 100% all in on KFP to start the season. I'm not sure sitting at 6-3 they've looked to replace him during the season.

I can see why you'd say this, but how can we be 100% sure that Canada is an incompetent coordinator? Because our offense sucks? The QB is culpable for that as well. What would happen in a Canada offense if we had a high end QB? We likely will never know since next season we will either not have a high end QB because we will still have Kenny, or we wont have Canada because we went with someone else.

WINS in general is a terrible metric to grade QB's on.

    2022-2023
    Justin Herbert = 14-12
    Kenny Pickett = 13-8

However, if you replaced the PPG allowed from Kenny's defense with the PPG allowed from Justin's you'd see something different
    Justin w/ Steelers defense PPG = 21-5
    Kenny w/ Chargers defense PPG = 3-18

    It's a team game.

No one in their right mind is saying that Kenny Pickett is better than Justin Herbert. What we are saying is that Herbert has not taken off and joined the ranks of QB's like Mahomes or Burrow like he has the capability of doing. I'm sure a lot of it is coaching but he had a 27-0 lead against the Jags in last year's playoff game and lost. He doesn't have that clutch gene but that could turn around if they ever get rid of their horrific coaching staff.

Yeah, so far Herbert has been a stat monster who has not excelled at crunch time. Of course I’d take him over Pickett, but until he starts leading his team to critical wins when the chips are seemingly down, those questions about how clutch he is will linger. My recollection is that he looked as lost and butt-puckered as the rest of his team did when Jacksonville started to come back.

I understand that we aren't saying he's better than Herbert. There are very few QB's that have started a game in the last 2 seasons that Kenny has out-performed. I was just making the point that the "wins" stat can lie since football is a team game. Kenny and Herbert look like they might be similar caliber based solely off "wins", but we all know that isn't the case.

That being said, Kenny has a chance to lead this team to the playoffs and change the narrative about his play and development over the next 8 games. I hope he does just that, I am just not expecting it.

I mainly agree, but I just don't see the Steelers I know ,and love giving up after not even 3 whole seasons.

Tell that to Houston. It when You do something...not what You do. How many times have We seen a team look awesome in the 1st half, and then the Qb doesn't do much in the second, and in the final drive , or two they fail, and the other team wins??? Happens all the time. There are great players, and there are clutch players.

He has actually done that a few times. I can't remember what game it was this Year, but His team was only down by like 3, and He got the ball twice in the end of the game....nothing, and punt, and the next drive .....int. Sometimes....nay ....a lot of times it's not what You do ,but when you do it. Everyone in every sport, or walk of life has seen this to be true in most everything.

Yeah, it would be great for the franchise if Kenny becomes that guy.

I think in a court of law, there is more than enough evidence to find Canada guilty of being an incompetent offensive coordinator. But Pickett is certainly not absolved of his role. He simply has not been nearly good enough and it’s time for him to step up. My fear at this point is that he may not be able to step up and we find ourselves going back to an 80s-90s level of quarterback ineptitude.

I hope that isn't the case. I get not everyone is as lucky as GB was going from Favre to Rodgers, and we certainly waited a while between Bradshaw and Ben... but it would be nice to not have to wait that long to have average to above average QB play. Hard to win in this league without it.

Yeah I don't think we are going to cast him off unless he fails TERRIBLY the last 8 games of the season. It just isn't the Steeler way.

I am sure we will roll at least one more year with him... I just hope that is the right decision and we aren't just being stubborn. I also hope Kenny shows something these last 8 games to raise my confidence level in him moving forward (because it is pretty low right now).

Pretty much and that’s a pretty good analogy given that this passing offense has been downright criminal this season!

Because the offense is still ranked near the bottom.
