    WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

Although I hope that doesn't mean that they guaranteed LeBeau's retirement after next year. Hopefully it was just a raise...?

I think it means just that. Can't imagine Butler staying if DL was going to be here past next season. I don't have a problem with that, he's learning from the best and can infuse some fresh ideas too. Would be a smooth transition...hopefully.

Art II: "Keith, get over here... sign on this line.... NOW"
    Keith: "Yes Mr Rooney"
Art II: "Now cancel that silly interview you schedule in Indianapolis, you know they don't play defense over there... You're no Bruce Arians"
    Keith: "Yes Mr Rooney"

I think this is great news.

Agreed. They've both been here forever, and Butler is said to be very sharp (he certainly does well with our linebackers), so I can't imagine a much smoother transition. Still, hard for me to root for the end of LeBeau just because it's necessary in order to ensure the right successor. Worst case scenario, LeBeau retires after this year, Butler takes over and does a great job, and then becomes a HC somewhere almost right away. One of the things that's so awesome about LeBeau that we all overlook is that he's ours as long as he's alive and we want him. He stays because he wants to, because this is what makes him happy. He could have been a HC years ago.

    I know

Coaches are recycled all the time... DC-->HC-->DC-->HC ...How much you wanna bet Wade Phillips gets another HC gig at some point, despite the fact it's been proven again and again he absolutely stinks at being a head coach? DL definitely could have been a coach again after '05, and pretty much any year since then. But he likes it here. Good thing.

Reports are that Butler changed his mind when it became official that Arians would be the Colts' OC.

That would be enough to make me not want to go there.

YOu all know they told him DL is gonna have one more year, and the keys to the machine will be his. However, I see Butler as a DC for two years before he gets scooped up for a HC somewhere else

If you could, please provide the transcript after Ben (who won't be so big) 'goes up to the owner's office...'.
They should make the meeting pay-per-view (when/if Art II lets it happen).

It suddenly occurred to him that he needs to bail out Arian and his incompetent play calling the way Lebeau did. Thanks but no thanks.

I have a feeling that this upcoming season will be DL's final season. What an "additional" motivating factor for the defense to play lights out and hopefully secure another Super Bowl title for DL in his potential final season! Motivation comes in all varieties and I, as a Steeler fan, will gladly take it in any way possible!
