Kahn has basically rebuilt the entire roster

On offense the only holdover from the Colbert era is Muth. On defense watt, heyward, and minkah.

I think we've probably lost the mantra that "Steelers don't rebuild, they reload."

Definitely a rebuild at work here.

I think technically we have gone through two rebuilds. A partial rebuild or rebuild in progress under Colbert and then Kahn has tossed it al out and started over.

As he should have. Colbert was mailing it in the last few drafts. Way overestimating their ability to 'coach up' project players (likely because Tomlin was in his ear). The smallest coaching staff in the NFL can't handle that many projects going on.

I still identify them as a weaker front office. That doesn't mean terrible.
You would think, a priority in a rebuild would be "QB"
But OK..... I am still malleable on the condition:

They do what it takes to get the QB in the 26 draft.
    - They have some wiggle room as they did draft Pickett and fumbled the crap out of that... they still get a pass.
    - They did sign 1 has-been and 1 never was in attempt.
    - They even tried old Mason Rudolph and they've even brought him back.
    - They have drafted Howard who might have potential or at the very least should be a serviceable backup for the next 5 years.

Aside from some bargain basement shopping, I am willing to concede those points.
Fail in 26 and I'll be all for running them out of town.
    I'm all about the W's too... :)

Pretty hard to shop for a QB when there isn’t much out there to shop for.

QB last. No reason to draft your franchise guy if the team around him sucks. OKAW are doing this exactly right. If the OTs work out, we're in business (though I still don't love the coaching staff).

Khan and Weidl have done a great job. Building the team from the trenches out. I applaud them for not reaching for a QB just because we need a QB. The team is well positioned now to take advantage of a franchise Qb when one comes along. I like the fact that we are also postponing ourselves to take advantage of compensatory picks in the future. You look at our roster now I don’t see a weakness other than perhaps OT and Slot CB and obviously QB. I would like to see them add a tenured slot CB and OT at minimum for depth and competition at those positions before the season. You look at the roster and we are stacked everywhere else and have depth everywhere now as well. One more offseason and the CB room will be built out, the Qb room will be upgraded and the Oline depth will be solidified. relative to other teams however we have more depth now than most teams, especially at DT, Edge, ILB, WR and RB. The FO has done a fantastic job relative to where we started from a couple of years ago.

    I can agree....somewhat.
They did pick Picket though and that sort of adjusts the sequence.
They have a chance to stand tall in my lens in 2026..... We shall see.
Oh, you're spot on about the coaching. Austin would be gone.

I am giving them that fudge factor.
I didn't like the choices either.
As I said; "Weak, that doesn't mean terrible."
And 2026 they could completely change that.

My only gripe with Khan is the OL. If Fautanu and Jones don't pan out.... this will be very bad. Satisfied with Frazier and McCormick.

The study is out there showing that 43% of quarterbacks drafted in the first round make it. Not sure what yardstick they used for making it, but I believe it. And that is not 43% drafted by people like us, that is 43% drafted by people who evaluate football players for a living. An NFL quarterback who can lead a team to a championship is a very rare commodity, which is why someone overreaches for one nearly every year.
Khan has done well rebuilding the rest of the roster, although O line needs help. 2026 is projected to be a much better year for quarterbacks than this year, so let’s hope to get a good one. That’s about all you can do, since the odds are worse than a coin toss on getting the next Big Ben type, even if you can draft high enough to have a shot at one.

Don't care about Austin because it's Tomlin's show on defense. But sure would like to see Meyer replaced.

Kevin Dotson is an All Pro Guard. He would have been so here had Tomlin not screwed up the Offensive Line. That is solely on Tomlin. Same goes for his Muscial Chairs approach to Offensive Line Coaches year in and year out.

One more draft and I will agree with the OP.... on paper. The 2023 Class has been a hit largely but it's biggest piece needs to put it together. Put up or shut up time for Broderick Jones.

    No more excuses.

Of the two, Fautanu gives me less pause than Jones due to Fautanus experience coming out. One nasty injury doesn't change my perception of him. Broderick though you are correct on.

If he cannot put it together?! The team will have to look early next season for an Offensive Tackle.

Im a Muth fan but they need to upgrade him next.

I like Khan the drafter, his work in free agency is more of a mix bag.

And yet the results are the same…mediocrity.

The organization or recent teams have no identity. They don’t have a smash mouth defense, a high powered or ground and pound offense. They just show up every week, will win some and lose some.

Sorry to be a downer, they’ve just been stuck in the mud for a decade and very uninspiring.

Well, we are definitely "rebuilding", and I look more towards the team they are trying to build than the short term returns. They've made a considerable investment in the offensive line. Two first round tackles, a second round center, and a 4th round guard since Khan and Weidl took the reigns. All are set to be starters next season. Lets see what that unit can turn into. We also acquired a big downfield target in Metcalf, drafted what looks to be a quality back to pair with Warren (in a new-look style backfield for the Steelers), and locked up a solid TE in Freiermuth for a more long term period of time. We still have to see what happens with Pickens (he is one hell of a talented player, we just have to find a way to avoid the crash outs), so maybe we have one more WR to add... but we are very clearly building the offense first before we swing on QB. I like this approach, and have zero issue if we have to go into next year with Mason/Howard playing QB for us.

Defensively, we just invested pretty heavily on DL in the draft. We have our pass rush situation figured out for at least the next couple of years (unless we move on from Watt, which I would imagine would return some draft capital), our ILB room is looking nice.... We will have to invest in the secondary soon too though. Minkah is a potential cut candidate after the season and our CB 2 is a one year rental. I really liked the addition of Elliott, but we will likely need to swing again at FS and get a CB to pair with Porter.

We really aren't that far away from having a very solid roster. Of course it depends on the development of the young guys and what we do at QB, but any roster in the NFL does. However, build the team first and don't force the QB situation. We can't afford to get it wrong again (I can live with the Pickett pick, but you start stacking QB misses in the first round and you end up a bottom tier team very quick), so make sure we invest correctly when the time comes.

Missing on any first rd pick hurts a lot and they have missed on many in recent years. They are again at risk of missing on another one with Jones. Hopefully he puts it all together this year.
