Thought I'd be able to handle it, but lost it walking to the car. 13 years. Best dog I have ever had. Vet cried when he was telling us he had more issues he couldn't do anything about.

Sorry to hear that, Lizard72. While this may not seem like as big of a deal, my 9 year old son just had a Betta fish die not long ago, and he didn't take it very well. I didn't even realize he paid that much attention to the fish, but I could see how hard it was for him when it died. I can't imagine how hard it must be to have to go through this with a dog you've had that long.

What a beautiful dog. So sorry for your loss. We lost our 14 year old husky last spring. I still miss him.

Sorry for your loss. Maybe you can get some comfort in knowing you gave your animal the best life it could have had and that it is not in any pain or suffering now.

    Man, I know that hurt.

I'm very sorry for your loss. Knowing you did the best for him doesn't make it any easier.

Man that looks exactly like a dog I just took care of, beautiful dog Lizard, sorry for your loss. It's brutal, even the toughest break down, no shame in that.

Ugh....so sorry. We lost our lab in 2011. It took us three years to get over it and try again.

That sucks. We had to put one of our labs down in August. It never gets any easier. But know that he is in a much better place now, and is without pain.

Dude I am so sorry. I know exactly what you're going through. A few years ago I had to put my favorite dog ever down. The vet met us over there at about 11:30pm and we are friends from church and he refused to charge us a dime. I held her little paw while he put the needle in. I cried like a baby and we took her to my wife's dad and he came outside to get her and I just broke down and sobbed like a little girl. My wife's dad is one of the most unemotional people I know and he just put his arm around me because he knew how hard it was for me. I absolutely could NOT bury her. My father in law and wife did it the next day and to this day I still don't know where she's buried. I think about her all the time to this day. Actually the other day I got a text with a pic and said "Look what Lucy just buried!" and I said "Who is Lucy?" and it was a text from a wrong number and they texted me apologizing profusely. I just laughed and told them it was fine and that I used to have a weenie dog named Lucy and I lost her a few years ago and told them to enjoy her while they can. They are family members as far as I'm concerned.

I've been taking in strays and rescue dogs for years so every couple of years I have to go through loosing one. It never gets any easier. I may think I'm rough and tough, but I loose it every time. I feel the pain for all of you.
