Yes its a crazy idea , but so is paying him $20+M a year .

Sure he is worth every penny and I love his game.

Big Sack guys make big money but is it really worth it.

Aaron Donald / JJ .Watt /Mack /Miller all those guys broke the bank. But after about season 6 they become above avg. and not really elite players . You end up paying for past performance.

Plus their teams haven`t really done anything . Miller won SB and Donald lost one.

They just become real expensive guys who get you 6-10 sacks as they age. If you are lucky and they don`t get hurt.

TJ could pull in 2 1st rounders plus a 2 or 3rd easy .I would guess.

We will have a lot of holes to fill , a rebuild after Ben . We might have a really bad 2-3 year stretch if we can`t get a QB .

Why spend so much on a TJ extension when we might suck for half of the contract?

    Just a thought , don`t go berzerk .

I'm sure this is a joke, if not it goes down as the dumbest idea in Steeler nation history. Enough said.

Some valid points but it would be the equivalent of the Pirates trading Josh Bell, a fan fave and arguably the best player. In spite of your caveat - this group will most likely go berserk. Brace yourself.

Just having fun , stirring the pot . Can`t wait for all the bashing.

Ask Dallas about that Hershal Walker trade.

If someone offers, we should listen. That’s quite a haul for one player.

It would be much worse than trading Bell, who might not be among the top 15 players at his position.

We would be able to afford other players . $22 million for one season of TJ or 3 solid other players for $6million each .

Go look at those SB champs last few years . Only Von Miller/ Darnold as big sack guys .

Seahawks were studs in secondary .

In one sentence you say he’s worth every penny and the next sentence you question if he’s worth it. SMH

TJ will most likely win DPOY , his value will skyrocket.

He has played lights out for 4 seasons getting better each year.

What have we won in his time here ?

U can use the what have we ,or they won about alot of teams and their players. That's not the point I was making. The point I was making was. Hershel Walker when he was traded, was not 2 Dallas....what TJ is 2 us now.

Need to start thinking of players as " Individual Stocks " to buy and sell.

They are not your friends or heroes .

Just players and we need a team of real good ones all over the field to win a SB.

Serious question in this frivolous post. The OP contends TJ ‘could pull in 2 1st rounders plus a 2nd or 3rd, easy’. Does anyone think that’s possible? You’d have to sign him to get anything near that in a trade, no ones going to give you very much for a guy with 1 yr left. Curious what value you’d thing he’d fetch.

Realizing it’s 1989, you’re not gonna get a Hersel Walker deal. There’s a salary cap now, and teams are far more analytical about the value of draft picks. I suspect you couldnt get more than a 1st and a 2nd for him.

And therefore, you don’t trade him. Because draft picks aren’t sure things. Suppose you get 2 #1s for him, and draft Artie Burns and Jarvis Jones - still think it’s a good deal?.

He is worth every penny , because that`s what the market says.

But with a salary cap he is a crusher. Ben , Watt and Cam thats like $60 million for 3 players.

Raiders trade Mack to Bears sign and trade deal. 2 first rounders

Miami traded Tunstil . 2 first rounders. Sign and trade.

Would you give 2 #1s and a#2 to Buffalo for Josh Allen? You need a QB. If not, why not?

Only bad franchises trade their best players, good teams build around them.

Also, I don’t think you would get two firsts for TJ, Raiders got it for Mack but that deal was the pinnacle of madness by Chicago and I doubt you’d get a team to go to those lengths again. Whoever trades for him would need to pay him straight away along with giving up huge draft capital, how do you develop the rest of your team if you do that?

There is a bit of risk for the Steelers once you extend TJ, looking at the Bosa deal $28m per year is the going rate for a top edge rusher, QB money basically. If he starts breaking down with injuries after you sign him to to that deal you are screwed. Yes any player can get injured but you are almost betting your franchise on one guy in this instance. I still think you have to do it though.

No, but I’d give a 1st and 2nd for Herbert. Kid has more potential than Allen.
