I'd like to ask a question to Steeler Nation. Hypothetically speaking, if we were offered a trade by the Vikings for Ben in London immediately following the game would you take it? Say we were offered a 1st and 3rd next year.. I know some arguments are going to be that nobody would give that up. Save it please, this is a HYPOTHETICAL situation and realistic I believe. That being said do you take it?

I say no, I don't believe that we're as far off as many think. We committed 5 turnovers and gave up 2 defensive TD's in the Chicago game. We outgained them offensively by almost double the amount of yardage. If we can clean up our ball security, and IMO it's one of the easiest things to correct, we can win again sooner rather than later. I would never trade proven stock (Big Ben) for potential (draft picks) but that's just me.

I am interested though in the pulse of Steeler Nation. Do we trade our franchise, 2 time SB winning QB for some high draft picks? What say you?

oh, Ben. it helps to read the whole thread i guess. no team is given a 1st and 3rd for a 30 year old qb thats been beaten to heck.

Hypothetically speaking, are you on crack?
Its amazing how quickly people want to ditch Ben (not saying you, but others). Have they not forgotten about
    Bubby Brister
    Mark Malone
    David Woodley
    Kent Graham
    Neil Odonnell
    Kordell Stewart
    Tommy Maddoxx
and any other stiff that I may have missed.

My gut reaction was a quick no, team wont go anywhere without a QB but I guess it would depend on what kind of QB class this is? If the Vikes continue on their current path, might have a shot at drafting a good QB.

I'm still going to go with no though, drafting the right QB is so iffy and I agree, I don't think we are far off, clean some stuff up and Ben can guide this team for another 4 years.

Did you really read the post? LOL.. Anyway, a team willing to trade for a proven winner in the 4th week is desperate to win now. With Ben I believe the Vikings are a win now team and I think it'd be an easy sell if the Vikings enquired about it in London. It's a hypothetical situation.

    This.
Imagine how bad this team would be WITHOUT Ben. The running backs are sketchy at best, the oline can't run block, and it can't pass block either. Teams already don't have to respect the Steelers run game, just think if they didn't have to respect the QB either. They'd be the first team in history to go 3 and out on EVERY SINGLE POSSESSION in the game. No yards, no first downs, no points, no wins.

I see this a lot on here and it makes no sense. Throwing out all those names means nothing. Just because we had so many bad QB's over the years doesn't mean it's going to take another 25 years to find our next franchise QB. Back in the 80's teams didn't worry as much about finding a great QB. In today's NFL it's the #1 priority.

Yes, I would take a 1st and a 3rd for Ben He may very well be able to keep this team competitive for another 4 years, but that's not exactly a long time when talking about a franchise player. Besides, he hasn't exactly been winning many games for us over the last couple years.

People throw those names out to show how difficult it is to find a good QB, not that it will necessarily take another 25 years. Pretty much all the really good QB's have come from 3 draft classes over the last 30 years. Not real good odds.

Not sure, but I can produce a list a mile long of 1st round busts, it's no sure thing, I wouldn't get rid of a SB winning QB who most likely will be playing another 5 years for a gamble.

Good for you, and I never said I would either. But, the hypothetical trade was for a 1st and 3rd round picks.

I don't see a great list of upcoming QB's for next years draft to make me want to lean towards this trade. I think we can still right this ship and Ben being on board would be a big part of it. I'm certainly not ready to start fresh with a new rookie QB anytime soon tbh.

I would most likely take it, esp if we are going to continue with the offensive strategy we are currently employing.

    Super, never said you would.

So we're going trade our franchise QB to pass on a 1st round talent QB and grab that amazing QB sitting in the 3rd round. Who cares about the 3rd, if you don't replace the QB we got rid of, not going to matter who you have playing on offense and defense.

I'd say no, there is a chance I, though probably not a good one, that the pieces fall together for this team over the next 2-3 yrs, having a capable, experienced QB would be important. Wouldn't trade Ben now.

Though I think this would be a bad trade for both sides. The Vikes give up a lot for a QB who may not help them. The Steelers risk giving up a QB that can for a possible Cam Heyword and Limas Sweed in return.

Remember the Hershel Walker trade? I think the Vikes have learned their lesson.

I would say no. The o-line needs to play better. Any other quarterback behind this line would be toast. I still think he can do it.

Way too much "dead money" to trade Ben this year or next.

I don't think there is a qb in next years draft worthy of being called a franchise qb in the first place.

as far as the list of qb's bobby keeps listing we forget bill cowher was not big on that position, ever. I don't think it will take us that long the next time around.

we also have to remember ben didn't do this alone. we had a very good team around him.

the patriots are finding out right now how well an older qb can do without weapons around him and they are squeaking by right now.

sure ben won two SB's several years ago. he's been here 10. now the weapons have diminished and he doesn't look near as franchise like as of late, since the weapons are gone.

right after the vikes game? i'd still say no, but as for him leading us to the promised land by himself, is getting more out of the question every year he ages.

we also have to get rid of other players as his salary goes up and this isn't helping him or this team. age happens and time moves on, if this team doesn't take that risk at some point, it will be a long time before we see another Lombardi, with or without ben.

you can't gut a team to keep one player and expect it to function well.
