My list of wants for the offense is limited to i-formation and throwing the ball over the middle. This is easily accomplished by any QB of any skill set or experience. The bar is that low. Jimmy can do those things but then again so could Dobbs. Take the cheaper option.

He’s not immobile. He actually executes roll outs and moves in the pocket just fine. I don’t want Garappalo, but he’s not immobile just because he rarely tucks the ball under his arm and runs.

He’s not anything anyone would describe as mobile. He certainly doesn’t fit what the Steelers have been touting, come on.

You’re moving the goalposts. You doubted that he can execute an RPO. Hell, Ben executed RPOs.

Lol not moving anything. I’m talking about what Canada will run this year and you know damn well they ran what they did last year because of Ben.

Are you under the impression that Matt Canada’s offensive design features the QB running the ball? It requires QB mobility mainly behind the line of scrimmage. Sure, the QB will have a few opportunities to keep the ball instead of throwing on a bootleg or scrambling when needed (any scheme allows for that), but it’s not a QB run heavy scheme. A lot of the folks here who were excited about Canada when he first joined the team were remembering his stint as OC at Pitt. His QB was Nate Peterman. I don’t want Jimmy G at all. Not even a little bit interested. But he has the mobility to run Canada’s offense.

I personally don't like Canada system, and I'm not just talking about here. I hope He allows Himself 2 adapt, learn, and not think His system , or nothing.

I have my doubts about it working well at the NFL level once defenses have enough film on it.

Those posts explained why he actually is a fit for the offense. He showed he can run something similar with the 49ers. They had a dynamic and versatile running game with him at quarterback. Also, he's not as immobile as Roethlisberger. He doesn't seem as uncomfortable under center as Roethlisberger has been the last two seasons. That alone is a significant improvement. I'm not a huge Garoppolo fan, but I think you are underestimating what he can do.

I just read Jimmy G has to get shoulder surgery. Doubtful he will be ready for training camp if that’s the case. Hard to trade for a guy in that situation.

Even Peterman ran for more than double the amount of yards with almost 300 yards in one season with Canada than Jimmy has his whole career.

But why Peterman, why not Chandler Harnish who ran for 1379 yards under Canada.

I actually like Jimmy as a QB but he doesn’t remotely fit what the Steelers have been hinting at what they want.

I know you guys have a deep aversion to running QB’s but banging your head against the wall isn’t going to stop it from happening. Canadas offense will have a heavy dose of it.

I would not go all in for either. Why mortgage the house and be haunted by a short-term Band-Aid for the long term.

I have an aversion to quarterbacks who are poor passers. I would love to see the Steelers with a quarterback who can do both. Find a Josh Allen? Fantastic?! Lamar Jackson? Not so much.

Garoppolo can run Canada's offense, but no, he doesn't fit into the hints about wanting a more mobile quarterback. Those two are not the same thing.

That should be the end of any talk of trading for him. He is only under contract for one more season, and at way too high of a number for a guy who could miss part of that season.

I never said Jimmy G can’t run an RPO offense. You guys made up an argument for me and ran with it. You really think the Steelers are going to run the same offense they did last season? I shouldn’t have to spell that out.

2 be honest. I really have No clue what they are doing, but though I don't have faith in Canada....I do in the rest of the Steelers staff for the most part.

11:47 AM yesterday: “Jimmy G has 192 career yards, how is he a fit for RPO?”

So, you technically didn’t “say” that he couldn’t, but asked a question that heavily implied it.

That’s how this discussion chain started.

Ok, I can see why you’d think that but we are talking about Steelers and it should be pretty clear they plan on having their next QB take a good portion of the options himself. That’s not Jimmy.

The author of that article tried to pass off Jimmy as a good fit for Canada and he’s not. Thats a typical national media guy who doesn’t have his finger on the pulse of the team with a bad hot take.

You are talking about two different things. One is what Canada's offense has been in the past. Garoppolo can run that, because that offense doesn't require a running quarterback. Also, he has proven he can run something like that with the 49ers.

Then there is this idea that the Steelers want a running quarterback. No, Garoppolo is not that.

I've been wondering since watching different interviews....if maybe our Head coach wants one type of player(Qb), and our GM another. They both sound totally different about it.

Did Tomlin talk about getting a running QB or a mobile QB? I do remember reading an interview with Rooney about a month or so ago where he said that they were not looking for a QB to be a key part of the running game.

The NFL Network said that his recovery time is expected to be 16 weeks. That probably means that he isn't 100% 16 weeks from now, just that he can start throwing again.

Well Mike seems 2 be the one that keeps bringing up Mobility....While Colbert, and Rooney kind of poo poo it. So I'm just wondering if We are having a totally difference of opinion on what they want??? Just something I've been thinking about:hmm:

I think they’re all talking about wanting mobility, but I haven’t heard any of them talk about drafting a running QB.
