Way too early for that prediction, nor am I making it, but listening to SiriusXM NFL today, Pat Kirwan and Tim Ryan both agreed he's the front runner at this point to win that award.

I value those guys opinions a lot, not that it means it will come true, but it means they obviously are very, very high on this kid.

    Here's hoping...

That would be cool, but I can`t help but think it would be better for us as a team, if LeVeon Bell won the honors...:yeehaw:(I assume you meant Jarvis Jones, the linebacker... ;)) (And, No, I don`t know how to spell Levi`s first name, either... LOL... )

If bell can pull off winning defensive rookie of the year that dude is extremely special and could be the Steelers best pick ever.

I don't see it happening. If he unseats Worilds, it won't be until half the season is gone but more then likely, he will be used as a pass rush specialist and take over the starting role next year when they don't bring Worilds back.

What will be interesting is, what will they do if Worilds has a break out season?

Yeah but we are talking about rookie of the year not player. If Jones is just a specialist but has 10-12 sacks he absolutely would be in the discussion.

He's going to get 10-12 sacks being a part time player? Yes, I guess if he did that he would get rookie of the year but he aint going to do that

Could do it in one game against the Steelers last year or the year before! What was the game they gave up 7 or 8? (I'd look it up but the siyte isn't coming up correctly here)

Aldon Smith had no problems not being full time, and still getting stats. Although he did have Justin in front of him.

Considering that only 5 players had 13 or more sacks last year, it's not very likely Jones will do that. I put him around 8 sacks.

Are you talking about the Eagles game a few years ago in Philly? Pretty sure they dropped Ben 9 times in that one.

Jarvis is the exact kind of guy that could definitely win it if he was handed the starting job, but I don't think he gets close unless Jason Worilds gets injured. I think Worilds will surprise some people this year, and with his experience, Jones won't not be able to keep up. He'd have to be a full-on Kendrell Bell miracle player to start for LeBeau, and Kendrell Bell didn't have the competition Jones has. He had Mike Jones, who'd never played a down for LeBeau himself and wasn't exactly an all-star, and John Fiala, who I love dearly, but wasn't cut out to be a starter. Worilds has been preparing for this for years and the coaches have confidence in him.

That won't keep Jarvis from getting in the games, but I think we're looking at a 2-5 sack rookie season unless there's an injury.

I will reiterate from a previous thread I made about JJ, what about Worilds ,Lebeau? Don't you think Worilds
wants to make millions also? Unless Worilds gets injured yet again it will be hard for JJ to get much playing time
unless fat ass Woodley gets hurt again, which is a real possibility. My advise to JJ would be this, learn how to
play both positions, be ready to perform when your time comes and when it does make an impact, also very important
get to the weight room to improve upper body strength, These NFL lineman will throw you around like a little kid.
Don't let that happen, OUTWORK them.

He has a leg up on most coming from a true 3-4 defense.

For those of you worried about his hamstring, Jones is back practicing, and even took a few reps with the first team defense.

Of course, that doesn't yet mean his hamstring is healed. We'll find that out when OTAs end, whether or not he aggravated it. If anyone's an insider and wants to share the full story, that'd be cool.
