its raining here in tennessee today and since i have a job in which we work outdoors not much to do today. a few of us are at dinner discussing the steelers. a buddy said he wants harrison back and I said he might need to move on which got us talking about his retirement. he said he is a hall of famer and i disagreed. Do y'all think he is?

He played at a Hall of Fame level, no question about it. As much credit as he got for being a great pass rusher, it was never enough in my book. He'd get as many sacks as Ware and Suggs (or very close to it) while rushing the QB far less than them. Not to mention he was better against the run and in coverage. Not to mention he basically saved/won a Super Bowl on a single play.

But did he do it long enough? Probably not for voters. Voting for the Hall of Fame is pretty stupid, anyway. They look at numbers, regardless of whether they're even the right numbers, and go by that.

I think he has 1 maybe 2 decent/serviceable years left, much like what he gave us this year. But he is not worth his contract money, he can't just restructure. He will have to take a pay cut...most people would not accept a pay cut.

No way he gets into the HOF. I see maybe 2 more years and then retirement. Bettis and Ward are the next Steelers to get in.

Still a sham that LC Greenwood is still not in.

James was coming on latter part of the season... if he can stay healthy and plays the remainder of his career like we all become custom to anything is possible. A new enshrinee has to be retired 5 yrs. I believe the bus will be their sooner than later... get your pencils out and summit your nominatee to the HOF for the committee's consideration.

James was in a weird situation early in his career, as we all know he was undrafted, had issues at kent state, was cut, and he basically had a rough go at it. But he didn't get to show what he had because of our system. We had Porter and Hagans who both played rather well for us. I wonder what we would have had if Harrison would have gotten an opportunity when he was a little younger. Well an opportunity that wasn't filling in for an injured porter or hagans.

I think they had him at ILB first until there was a need at OLB.

Man, Farrior and Harrison in the middle together would have just been plain NASTY!

i wouldn't mind seeing that next year. i'd move him to the middle in a heartbeat as i've said before. put woodley and worilds on the outside and timmons and harrison in the middle. friggin yikes. let him rehab that knee like he's said for a year not just the next week. he'll be healthier by next year. i'd give time to carter and robinson too on the outside. why not keep him and kill qb's from the front too.

I think he needs another 3 solid years to get HOF consideration and I'm just not sure he has enough left in the tank.

I agree with this, maybe 2 solid yrs would be enough, but it's not clear he even has one solid yr left.

Even at 100%, he's not exactly young anymore. It's going to be tough for him to play at the level he is used to playing at. His body may not allow it no matter how hard he tries and how healthy he is.

As for the HOF, I don't think there's any way he makes it in. He would need at least another 3 years of playing at a top level, if not 5 more years. He hasn't had a long enough career

Man you got that right about the rain! It's coming down like crazy! I live in east TN and we've had schools cancelling and everything. But as for Harrison, if this is his last year with us I do not think he will be in the PRO FOOTBALL Hall of Fame but he will DEFINITELY be in the hall of Steelers fame. I just don't think he's done it for long ENOUGH to make it in. Maybe if he would've been noticed before Tomlin finally decided to give him a shot then he could've made more of a push but I just think that sadly they're not gonna let him in. He's sorta like Terrell Davis who was a beast but not for long enough to get in the hall. Also Kevin Green is still not in there and he was a human sack machine.

They also say that politics play a huge role as well. I think it's ridiculous that they have to have a "veteran's committee" to put in guys from yesteryear. What in the crap takes so long that these guys are supposed to be in the football "know" but it takes them years to put in some of these veterans? If they were great enough to be remembered 50 years later why are they just getting in? The Hall of Fame is sort of ridiculous. I mean look at how long it took for Derek Thomas to get in. If he hadn't died he might STILL not be in. Andre Reid is not in there and he was awesome for a long time. Why did Ralph Wilson just get put in there? He has been a great owner? Why did Dick Lebeau just get put in there? Just because Harrison might not get in takes nothing away from what he has done for us and his Super Bowl play will not just live in Steeler history but in FOOTBALL history and a bunch of prudes can't take that away from him.

Yeah I think Green should be because he did it the whole time no matter where he was at. Also the guys he has coached in Green Bay have also done it really well too. A few years ago when they said that he was nominated I was like "really?" So then I went and looked at his numbers and I was like "Dang! He SHOULD be in there!" As far as the rain goes I live in Union County and school was two hours late today. Sevier county just closed them all together. You work for the state? My wife's uncle just retired from there after 54 years.

Bill Malone. He was a highway man for all that time. I work at UPS and I know a guy there from Jefferson County named Daniel Morgan. You know him?

Well I've preached in a lot of the surrounding counties but as far as I can think I don't know any preachers from Jefferson County. I've been waaaaaaay up in Grainger County doing it though. How close is that to Dandridge? Is it across the mountain? Is Jefferson County past the 407? It is isn't it?

There are maybe 2 HOF candidates on the current Steeler roster
and there names don't end with Harrison.

I'm guessing your thinking Ben and Troy.

I think Troy has the far better shot as of now.

A couple of yrs ago I figured Ben would get in for sure, now I don't know. He'll need a dominant yr or two to solidify his chances.

Pouncey with 3Pro Bowls before his 24th birthday is off to a good start.
