On Behind The Steel Curtain, they have Timmons on the books for 12.5 million next year?
Looking over it, we could cut Cam Thomas and Mike Adams with hardly any cap hit. That Lamar Woodley money is crazy, though.

Timmons has a $7.5 Mil base and a prorated signing bonus of a little over $5 Mil. $4,433,750 cap savings if cut, $3,315,000 cap room could be made by a maximum restructure. Not advocating either of those moves, just providing the data. You can plan on them making a move on his contract this offseason.

Thomas will be a $500K dead money hit and will clear $2 Mil in savings if cut. I'd be a little surprised if he wasn't cut. Adams would be ~$250K in dead money, ~$875K in savings if cut. I'd be a little surprised if they cut him, but hey, you never know.

The Woodley dead money is what it is... ~$8.5 Mil.

A left field kind of move, and this is crazy but hear me out: Timmons is playing at a high level, but he has probably already peaked in terms of athletic performance. There is a log jam at ILB on this team.

Vince Williams plays really well, he always seem to do something positive when he is on the field and brings an energy to this team. Shazier should have a bright future here.

Do the Steelers want to get even younger, and use some of that extra money where they really need it? Dare I say trade Timmons?

If Troy and Ike retire does the money owed still hit the salary cap?

    Where's the cap guru?

I thought a retirement takes the dead money off the books?

Generally speaking, when a player retires, prorated bonus money accelerates to the current cap year. I say generally speaking, because sometimes there is language in the contract that allows the team to get a "refund" (for lack of a better word) for some of that bonus money.

Well, I can't recall a player retiring and being a June first cut. If he "retires", the team takes on $4.5 Mil in dead money, and saves $3.75 against the 2015 cap. For all we know, there is language in his contract that protects the team from swallowing all of that bonus money in the event of retirement.

If he's cut with a June 1st designation, then the dead money this year is $2.25 Mil, and $2.25 Mil in 2016. $6 Mil is his 2015 base salary for anyone wondering.

Willie Colon comes off the books now too doesn't he? I think he counted around 5 million last year.

That's correct. The remaining $4.3 Mil of the $6.45 Mil total is now off the books.

I think we will probably see Lance Moore go, too. Hardly any dead money and Bryant and Wheaton should be locked in.
