I would say yes, he is.

Ryan Day's dedication to the sport, his football acumen, and his leadership qualities have made him a highly respected figure in the coaching world. Aside from his second-to-none coaching skills, Day is an energizing speaker that lights up any room he walks into.

My buddy, a rabid OSU fan, was ready to run him out of town on a rail after the Michigan loss last year. Then they won the National Championship. Now he talks about him like he's the second coming of Woody Hayes.

I honestly could never compare former HC's with current day, and even those guys have to be looked at in the context of the rules they had to follow vs. the changing landscape of the times. It's not necessarily better or worse, just different, any HC has to build, teach, promote, project and lead from their position. It's just different from a time athletes were brought in, could not start their freshman year, and were essentially held until their senior year, not paid (at least 'knowingly' lol), to today where player's can basically enter portals at will, a team can pay out whatever they can get from a doner, and an HC has to manage his team, recruiting, portal, possible championship, more recruotong, portal, spring, more recruiting, portal...! In this situation Day has done a fantastic job, and indeed may enter that realm as one of the best ever, but dam I miss the days when Woody Hayes would ***** slap a guy, even from the opposing team..lmao.
