Do you think the injuries and the penalties are lack of talent and skill? I know many penalties are due to being slow, unskilled, or out of position, and being in the wrong place at the wrong time in the wrong position can get you jacked up in a bad way. I used to think the team had a lot of talent that was underperforming, but all the penalties and injuries almost point to lack of talent, and maybe our record is an accurate reflection of this.

That thought is pretty depressing, because if you have the talent, things can be fixed with some adjustments, but without the talent, you are pretty much screwed.

You have to have the Jimmy's and the Joe's, always remember this.
They are always why teams win, not the X's and the O's. There you go, Dick Lebeau.

Are you saying Pouncey got injured because he isn't very good?

I'm not sure I agree with that...

gilbert is not very good he injuried 3 people in the same way , as far as the talent i see few on the defense , the secondary is one men only (clark) on the front 7 the veteran are good but declining (except maybe timmons and woodley) the new are average at best , we are paying poor draft on tdefense in the last years, now i don't know if changing scheme can revamp somebody of them but we need talent on secondary badly

I agree. I think we simply have dumb players who can't keep their balance. They put themselves in dumb positions and trip over or get tangled up with other players and fall on eachother and roll eachothers ankles. Its so ridiculous.

Not all the injuries, for sure, but you can get injured from being off balance due to poor technique, or straining to compensate for someone else's poor technique. And penalties like holding and PI, two of the big drive killers or sustainers, are because of being beaten - the other guy was better than you. I think the Steelers may be suffering from having a few superstars (Ben, Troy, and a few others), which raises expectations, but the rest of the supporting cast (o line, secondary) is way below average in the skill department. And when lots of positions are being filled by backups, you are really screwed. I fear changing schemes or approach won't fix this problem.

A 3-4 zone blitz requires DB'S to cover and be great in their run fits.....The problem starts with their coverage,,if they could Cover better then they could play tighter coverage and be in a better position for their run fits....

Our guys are stuck in no mans land to far away to stop the passing game and to far away to help with the run....We can't blitz because the guys in coverage just get further away from the LOS.....

The only thing that we can try is some type of Monster Defense....4-1-5 or a 4-2-4 or a 5-1-4 Monster....All of which would help in the running game all of which would help with the passing game....It would make the D simple as the only guys who blitz are the DL and the Monster, this would allow us to run simple man/zone schemes that would allow our young better talented players to get on the field....It would also put guys in position to make plays without thinking to much or getting out schemed....

A prime example was the big play we gave up to the TE ...Yes Harrison did get beat as he was trailing ,but the bigger problem was where is the force player from the strong side flats?? Someone would be assigned in a simple system however in the zone blitz it was a read thing and 2 guys went with 1 WR leaving a void for the TE to run for a extra 10 yards...We have seen the same thing from the Ravens,Bengals,Raiders, on multiple Occassions against us....The zone blitz leaves a area thin by design,Teams have found it and have made Big Play after Big Play against us....The bottom line is our DB'S don't have the skill level required to run a 3-4 so we should stop it immediately....
