    Off topic....

I would put Metallica in early '86 against any rock band in history. 67 Beatles, 68 Doors,. 72 Who, 72 Zeppelin, 72 Floyd, 83 U2...in their primes

Cliff Burton was the alpha and Omega of that band. He was freaking Ludwig van Beethoven of metal.

    Challenge accepted.

1990 Rust In Peace Lineup. Best Metal Band Lineup Of All Time in my opinion.

Dave Mustaine. Marty Friedman. Dave Ellefson. Nick Menza.

Those four in their prime had no weakness; singular or together being irrelevant. That album is the pinnacle of metal in my opinion. True greatness.

Those four were the "Steel Curtain" of metal.

So, are you saying there was no difference between Bostic in 2018 and Shazier pre injury 2017?

as i said in a thread, it's not just shazier that wasn't replaced. we have never replaced timmons. now we are down two really good LB'ers. vince and bostic are lucky to be backup capable.

Rust in Peace is definitely a classic, but it's not on the same level of excellence as Master of Puppets, IMO.

Megadeth was slightly better/tighter as a live band, but as far as musical composition, recording, songwriting, etc... Metallica has the edge.

Master was great but Rust in Peace is on a whole another level in my opinion. For Master of Puppets, there is Holy Wars. For Battery, there is Tornado of Souls. For Orion, there is Five Magics. For that matter, while Cliff far exceeds Dave Ellefson, Marty Friedman, Dave Mustaine and Nick Menza exceed James Hetfield, Kirk Hammet and Lars Ulrich. As you said, all preference.

Dave Mustaine also got kicked out of Metallica the same. While Megadeth would not be possible without the existence of Metallica, Dave not being a part of Metallica in those early years means Metallica is not the same as we know today. Much of Dave's influence can be heard in the No Life 'Til Leather album; Seek and Destroy and The Mechanix being chief among them.

All that said, neither of us are going to budge from our opinions. You believe Master of Puppets is the greatest album ever and i believe Rust In Peace is. Agree to disagree. :drinks:

I don’t know that either Devin falls to us at 20. It certainly won’t be Devin White, especially because he is going to Cincinnati at #11 if he even falls there.

Figures that when Burfict finally gets cut, it’s actually a bad thing for us.

This is probably the most polarizing and worthy debate ever discussed on this board. I've always been a bigger fan of Metallica overall, but in terms of composition, Megadeth was tiiiight.

I saw Megadeth in the summer of 1998 at House of Blues in Myrtle Beach, SC. Damn good show... they played several tracks from Rust in Peace. Saw Pantera open up for Skid Row in 91 in Asheville, NC. Metallica in 96 in Roanoke VA with Corrosion of Conformity opening up. Megadeth was the most musically gifted, Pantera had the best mosh pit and Metallica was the most entertaining. All were great.

A post from Heinz that didn’t make me question his allegiance to NE, all it took was metal

FYI, I hate Patriots more than anybody on this forum... but they have surpassed the Steelers on every level by far over the past 20 years. I don't see how acknowledging their achievements equals allegiance. Until Coach Popcorn is gone... or Belichick/Brady retires, it's gonna be more of the same.

I’m assuming my lack of metal band knowledge is what is keeping me from understanding how this is Steeler related? ;)

Although I did listen to Dark Side of the Moon while watching the Steelers win 4 Super Bowls. At least, I think I did.

Wow! You said off topic, not off the deep end! Not even close! Styx, Eagles, Journey, Rush, Stones, Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Aerosmith, The Who, and the list goes on.

I'm guess something life changing happened in 1986 for you:smiley1:

Not really... I was in 8th grade. I didn't start listening to Metallica or appreciating metal until 1988... Garage Days EP and ST's How Will I Laugh Tomorrow when I can't even smile today... album.

I guess being a teenager in the 70's makes it hard to think of any other music as the best ever:smiley1:

Both great albums, but I’m going to agree with Heinz on this one. Master moved metal forward like no other album in history.
