If you were to add 8 more teams in the NFL what cities?

In a way they deserve it. I don't like the way they lost their team then went after someone else's team with a fat stadium deal, then after losing that team back to the city they stole them from they play the victim card.

A lot of my clan live in Missouri and I hate talking ball with them because of that. That said I do feel sorry for them, because they have a great fan base and StL should have an NFL team. They also should have gotten the Browns treatment and retained the Cardinals name back when they left the city, but the NFL is nothing if not inconsistent. Just seems to me that Arizona renaming the team to something that makes sense locally would have been the better path, though we are talking about the Bidwill family lol.

Also I feel for San Diego. Granted it's hard to feel bad for California cities, but that's a great city that should have a team.

We can't find 32 men who can play QB at a solid NFL level.

The bottom 1/3 of a 40 team league would be really bad relative to the few teams with good QBs.

In this 40 team league, Mason would be a starter...and probably...maybe not in the bottom quartile of the league.

We already don't have enough humans that can play QB at an average NFL level.

Adding more teams will turn the NFL into something closer to college football (or european soccer...or the MLB). Where there's a bunch of good teams. Then the powder puffs they play to pad their stats.

That's the reason I don't follow the NCAA. And it's why I hope that the NFL wouldn't add more teams to the league.

I think there's a somewhat similar thing in the NHL...where I think they should contract the league to increase the talent / roster (but that's a terrible idea for revenue generation, so it will never happen).

 

I don’t know this commissioner is all about revenue above everything else. The quality and integrity of the game has already been greatly diminished over the last two decades. Wether it be player safety to an extreme, adding games but not increasing roster sizes, more games with shorter brwaks, increased and excessive penalities to promote safety and scoring, more commercial breaks etc. heavily promoting the nfl internationally. I absolutely can see them adding more teams.

 

If they added more teams they would for sure extend the season and expand the playoff pool. All of that would further make regular season games less important as the other leagues like mlb and nhl already are. The shorter season and limited number of teams that make the playoffs is always what made the nfl special. I honestly believe Goodell is going to over saturate the nfl to where people are gonna get sick of it. It will still be really popular because of getting, fantasy football and people just love sports but I can see it plateauing and regressing. The quality of the sport has already regressed and Goodell caters towards the more casual viewer. They are pushing hard for more female viewership ala the Swifty fans which is going to further erode the quality of the game and make it less violent and more about scoring.

I just think I'll care less about the NFL if they do this.

I know it's probably hard to believe of a guy who posts on a Steelers message board, but I follow the league less now than I did a decade (and especially two decades) ago. I used to get the ticket (which was way better in Canada since there are no local teams) back when games were only on Sundays, Mondays (and eventually Thursdays).

I also bought the ticket the first year it was on youtube...but only because I can qualify for the educational discount. But even at the discounted price it was a garbage product. I liked having Red Zone, but I think there were only something like 4 Steelers games that I got through the ticket. I'm in what is apparently a secondary market for the Steelers, so they're on TV a bunch. And then in the last 5 weeks of the season (often the most exciting time), we were only on the Ticket once (I think we played Thursday, Monday or Sunday night, and twice on Saturdays).

So I said "f-it, I'm never buying the ticket again". And I think the educational price was ~ 1/4 the retail price. It absolutely sucked the year I had it. Not worth it at all. Much worse than when I had it in Canada where I actually did get to watch every Steelers game that was on Sunday afternoons.

They should obviously change the Ticket to allow for just buying every game from a given team. And then share the revenue with whoever gets the money if I watch it via my antenna.

Little things like this have made it so I mostly follow the Steelers now...where i used to follow the NFL. Having a "real job" and kids pushed me down this path too.

The frustrating thing is when you sit down to watch a live nfl game you spend more time watching commercials than you do the actual game. It’s insane how many commercials they have now. Sometimes at the worst time. A lot of the commercials are horrible too. You get bombarded with woke crap from messages on the field or even in commercials.

 

Yeah I too have followed the NFL less. I can’t stand Goodell. I really believe his and the owners greed have significantly reduced the quality of the product on the field. So many games now are ruined by officiating. I hate to say it but I miss the violence in football. I don’t want to see anyone get hurt but a hard hitting game with good defense or a powerful run is fun to watch. The way QB’s are protected in the NFL it is rediculous. It’s way overboard. It’s way more than player safety. Goodell views the. As an asset that -notably generates the most tv viewership ala revenue so he just protects those guys at all costs, to the extent he has destroyed the integrity of the game. It all started in the Brady era. Then Mahomes etc. you know it’s about revenue too and not player safety. He could care less about the players actual health because if he didn’t he wouldn’t be extending the season or having them fly over to Europe to play or play on all different nights of the week with less rest in between games thus jeopardizing their health.

 

Logistically how an the billionaire that owns the team make the travel work financially? Or are you just concerned about the in-season travel schedule? I am certain that they would probably prioritize home and away stretches, but its not a massive deal. I would imagine something like 3-4 road stretches for their 8-9 road games and same for their home stretches. It could be done pretty easily without issue I am sure.

 

Edmonton is less than half the size of Pittsburgh and is an oil town. Its not a particularly wealthy town by standard populace. Its bigger than Green Bay lol but I think it would struggle as an NFL town. Besides, with the winter temps and blue collar city, it would really struggle to attract players to want to live there. It's like -5* farenheit in December as a average high temperature. I know it gets cold in other cities, but Edmonton is as north as it gets for civilization in Canada and it doesn't have the ocean to keep the temps up like in Vancouver. Toronto is pretty similar to Buffalo, but has the big city feel. I think Vancouver and Toronto would do well.

Not saying it is a good idea. I agree that the overall quality would go down.

I just don't think there are many "untapped" domestic markets that would support an NFL team.

 

Overall quality goes down because player count stays the same as the team count grows... However, investing in areas like Canada and Europe makes the most sense because there is at least the argument that they could build the sport up enough that the "potential player base" grows because Canadians and Europeans now think NFL could be an option instead of Hockey or Soccer.
