If Lamar leaves Baltimore, is it time for Pittsburgh to reevaluate defensive needs?

2nd TE? No love for Conner Heyward?

I will be curious to see how Conner improves this off season. He really stepped up in the Cleveland game when Muth went down. The boy can catch the football!

 

I could see him being there early in the second round.

 

Conner won't be the #2 TE, if Gentry leaves they will get another TE to be the #2 TE.

 

There is more to the position than catching.

 

You taking Gentry back or do you think the Steelers need an upgrade for a blocking TE? No offense to Zack Gentry, but I don't imagine his phone will be too busy this offseason. 2 year league minimum contract is probably all he is going to see from other teams.

He was however, our #3 QB on game day this year.

 

I would imagine that him being best friends with Freiermuth would make him a priority as well. He's a fine enough TE2 and shouldn't be expensive. Would be an easy retain and not a high enough need to really upgrade here. Heyward isn't going to be a traditional TE2 anyways, he's more of just a matchup maker. The kid is the same type of size/player that Aaron Hernandez was (without the murdering). Never going to be used in a traditional sense at the position, but can be an awesome weapon as he gets mismatches across the line and can even run the ball in emergencies. I don't think his gameday helmet is going anywhere.
