I dont know how it look on tv but there was alot of steelers fans and and the tempo of the game was on our side specially on the 1st qtr and freaking Tomlin made sure to just take it away and give it to the hawks by doing that stupid fake field goal! That was just ridiculous!! I dont understand why he needs to get to cute, No reason for it.

It was more the execution than the call, Landry can't throw that ball, I'm sure when they practice that he's only supposed to throw that if hes wide open. He wasn't close to being open. Poorly thrown too, across the field and he just lobbed it.

It's a very calculated dumb decision by a coach rolling the dice.

Back street alley way crap shooting. Never been more disappointed by Tomlin.

You could definitely tell on TV by the chant of "HEEEEEEATH" every time ANY large white tight end in a Steelers uniform caught the ball.

That's pretty much par for the course with a backup QB though. It was just a stupid call. You don't run a play like that with your backup QB and expect perfect execution, it's not realistic and Tomlin should know that. The whole play just made no sense. Either go for it with Ben, go for a fake with the kicking team or just kick the damn thing.

His decision making process is so screwed up. He'll go for it there but not when the game is on the line. He's aggressive at all the wrong times.

I don't necessarily agree, teams run that play with the holder making the throw, I like the fact that we ran it with an actual QB at least.

I saw a lot of Towels waiving in the stands for sure.

Awful call IMHO. First off just go for it with the full offense... Second if you do fake it, don't throw to a back up LT.

No disagree here. You ran a play that requires throwing the ball and making a good decision when you do, using a QB that you had faith in starting several games while your star QB was sidelined with an injury.

Landry should have thrown that ball into the stands if he couldn't get it to AV. The key was see if they covered him and that he was comfortable giving up that field position if not.

Jones is disappointing us compared to that outstanding relief when Vick couldn't get it done.

I always get a kick out of that.

I tuned in to the game later on, maybe about the 2 minute mark of the 2nd quarter, so I missed the fake field goal. I don't know why we try that kind of stuff. Leave it for college.

Blast - I respectfully (and strongly) disagree. Nance made a good point that the play was run out of a timeout. They know Landry is not the typical holder - so the Seahawks were game for a fake. It was an absolutely atrocious decision. Even if it works (like the wildcat-ish run that Bell scored on in San Diego) I still see it as a bad call.

Great job OP and everybody who represented! I could tell on TV but I had to go to Instagram and Twitter to see just how many Steelers fans showed up and it was a lot! The whole lower bowl. They didn't talk about it during the game because the NFL has spent years hyping up this "12th man" East Coast team exposed them as frauds just like we knew they were.

I don't think the fake FG cost them the game. They were still up by 8 at the end of the 1st half. It was lost when the offensive gameplan became force the ball to AB so he can get his stats.

Very bad call. No way anyone can defend anything that stupid. Tomlin get worse, not better.

From what I saw, if Landry didn't throw a wounded duck for a pass, the Ranger could have walked into the end zone. It wasn't the call for the fake but the execution that was the problem.

Wasn't really a wounded duck - he lobbed it because he didn't see the CB underneath (from his perspective, the ref was there too, so perhaps he was thinking the DB was the ref? dunno - not that I'm giving him an out on that one). Additionally, he was throwing back across his body, which is a bad thing. Add to it that the Seahawks had 45-60 seconds to sum up our personnel package because it was done AFTER the end of a quarter (stupid stupid stupid) - and it was obvious they knew exactly what we were doing.

Bad play call, bad execution... just bad all around. And a net result of -10 pts. And we lost by what again? Oh yeah... 9. Thanks MT.

YESSS!!! Exactly!! Plus, let me add that Landry Jones' "receiver" was an OL- a new one at that. Just a really, really dumb call.

Yeah, this is where I fell regarding the call. If they would've run that package out there in normal course I could see a little better surprise to it. Given the way they entered the fake formation several seconds before the ball was snapped, I think they needed to ensure they had Seattle's base FG defense package and expectation. The timing for that call just wasn't there, imho.

Yep. I have a pretty high level of confidence in our current FG kicker. Tomlin's rolling of the dice on so many occasions is akin to gambling the rent money at the casino; if you win your kool, but lose and your out on the streets. And in ANY gambling, you always lose more than you win if you play enough.

He should chose his battles more wisely by selecting those he "knows" he can win.
His "field general" skills have proven to be bewildering, way to much.

I agree that I didn't like the call but the point I was trying to make is that a back up QB has a better chance of success than a place holder trying to make a throw.

I'll say here what I yelled at the bar at the time: If you're going to FAKE it, then FAKE it!!!!!!!

Don't change the formation and basically "telegraph" it: "Hey, Seahawks, we're NOT kicking the field goal...just in case you were wondering!"

I don't mind a fake there; I mind how they went about doing it. Another boneheaded maneuver by Mr. Bonehead.

Nance was wrong. It was run out of a Quarter change. Tomlin and Company thought there might be confusion (apparently there's confusion for them between quarters so they think everyone has confusion)

The defensive guy said his whole Seahawks sideline was yelling that the personnel wasn't right and to watch the fake. At that point you either call the TO or take the delay of game since they knew it was coming. Or....you as the QB on the field that actually had time to make a better throw, makes a better throw!
