I hope the NFL heavily fines Chiefs #99 for intentional leg whipping of Ben

Yes, he should be fined. No question. I'd say 75/25 on whether he actually does get fined.

As far as the Detroit play - he should be suspended for at least 2 games (including postseason). That was disgusting. At least the KC play happened in the heat of of the play in a critical goal line situation. It was wrong, but there's no reason to believe there was intent to do anything other than getting Ben on the ground. Raiola's was after the play, and clearly done with malicious intent. There's no way he can say "oh, I stumbled."

Is there a precedent for fining players for attempting to trip or for tripping itself? I don't want to see the guy fined if that's not typica in cases like this. The guy was just trying to get Ben on the ground, I really don't think there was any intent to injure whatsoever. He was tied up so he stuck his leg out. Now if players typically get fined in these cases, then so be it. I still don't agree with fining guys for every little thing though.

Tripping isn't a little thing though the potential is there for serious injury not just to Ben but also the person doing the triping, not to mention the lineman engaged with him. Risk is involved with all aspects of football but triping causes too many unknowns.

Like I said, if fining players is typical for tripping, then do it. Otherwise, don't. I don't see tripping as any worse than other stuff that happens in games. Horse collar tackles and face mask tackles are worse I think

I haven't seen it since it happened live yesterday, but I didn't think it was intentional. At the time, it looked like his leg was flailing around after getting knocked off balance by DeCastro (I think) and ended up whipping Ben in the knee. Maybe I'll have to look at it again, but my thought at the time it happened (and after they showed the replay) was that it was accidental.

    --edit--

Ok, I just watched the incident like 10 times straight and it does look like he intentionally tried to trip/leg whip Ben.

Hmm, actually- it's not specifically on the fine schedule. I thought it was under kicking, kneeing, striking. Players have been fined for tripping, though.

I wonder if any have been fined for attempting but failing to trip. Guess we'll find out. I really didn't see anything malicious there though

I'd say probably, because often a failed trip is a kick or leg whip.
