Lets say Jarvis Jones does not pan out,
Could we see Shazier lining up at the ROLB?
Worilds Spence, Timmons,Shazier. Has he even taken any reps @ OLB? I am a firm believer
you need to have your most athletic football players on the field. Jarvis you have to show us some production son. Lets crank it up.C'mon
Peezy stay on this young man. Make him
    into yourself.

Timmons filled in at OLB for some of last season... or the season before... my memory is shot to ****... But anyway, he was really ineffectual. It would take a lot of adjustments, and we have better options backing up OLB at the moment than taking away a potential superstar at ILB.

In my view the answer is no (definitely no for this season), but I wouldn't fully rule it out down the line. When I was watching Shazier's games from college, I was impressed at just how fast he turns the corner and gets around the edge. He would need to add quite a bit of strength and bulk to be an effective every down 3-4 OLB, but as a pure edge rusher he already has an elite level of quickness and raw speed turning the corner. All of that said, I don't really see it happening. He is already an ideal ILB athletically in today's pass happy NFL, and he should pay dividends there from the get go.

I don't see it, Jones is bigger than Shazier and he struggled at OLB. Timmons also struggled when he filled in at OLB, they won't give on Jones until he plays out his contract IMO.

IMO JJ turns the corner this year and earns some bragging rights!

I see things changing from their normal he's an ILB and he's an OLB. so far in camp DL has been moving all of them around and bringing pressure with many different guys. including the plethora of safeties we have. it looks like he's liking all the speed and I don't think he's done experimenting with it yet.

I had a thread about sub package football earlier this year and I still believe the straight up oakie defense is getting fazed out slowly for speed from everywhere to keep them guessing.

I hope you're right, I'm not expecting him to get double digit sacks but 6-8 would be nice.

No, Shazier is perfect for ILB, if JJ turns out to be a bust, find someone else to play OLB.

JJ is not going to be a bust though. The FO is putting together a very good defense, bank on it.

I would also say no, although, I wouldn't rule it out if spence shows on the field that he is 100%......but in all reality, i'm pretty sure that jones pans out and h. jones develops as well

    Exactly...:this!:..
Either, I am just "old-school", or "uneducated"(probably a combination of both...)
But I really don`t see, why we have to limit any of our linebackers to "inside", or "outside"..
Yes, I know there are intricacies that I don`t see, but, for God`s sake,
we had Troy basically filling a linebacker role last year, and he is a SAFETY!!!
I think/hope, that LeBeau, will use the best players available, and get them on the field, "out of position", or not ...
Yes, we have a history of sitting rookies, but they used to have ProBowlers ahead of them.
    That`s not the case, anymore...
We gotta get the best 11 on the field, and, I think we will.
    Is It 7:30, yet???
    GO STEELERS!!!
Edit... what I forgot to say is...Think of it like this...
Since when did a pitcher have to be exclusively a "closer", or "set-up man"...
If the guy can throw the ball.... He can throw the ball...
Pitchers used to go 9 innings, for better or worse...
He is a PITCHER... you don`t need to pigeonhole athletes into "roles"...
Dri Archer is a great example, from recent times...
Reciever/running back... blocker, from a "fullback" position?
    Kick returner?
    Punt returner?
    Get him the ball...!!!:thumbs_up::yeehaw:

it's not even just the best 11. we are so deep at many spots we can rest guys without a great deal of drop off, if any. DL has been showing some of that in camp too. many combinations with speed coming from everywhere, with fresh legs. that will wear on an offense heavily.

Bleed Steel you make far to much sense
in your observations, we are antiques in our football thought process. Football is really
simple, can you beat the man standing across
from you? All I am saying is you must put
the best athletic football players on the field. And nobody is saying that JJ is a bust,
it is far too early for that.We must see some production. Peezy will help him. WE NEED PLAYMAKERS.We need people that will cause turnovers.
