How Mike Tomlin's Big Three Became Just Big Ben

    MIKE FREEMAN

It was at the beginning of practice three seasons ago when Steelers players say they knew trouble was coming.

Star wide receiver Antonio Brown appeared with two people in tow. They were part of Brown's new social media team and were following and recording him throughout practice.

Some veteran players were stunned. It wasn't just an unusual sight; it was unprecedented.

Brown's social media adventures would continue that winter. In January 2017, without Mike Tomlin's knowledge, Brown put the coach's postgame address to the team on Facebook Live, a video that left Tomlin answering unexpected questions about why he called the Patriots "assholes" days before the team was to play those Patriots in the AFC Championship Game. Brown's move was universally condemned by numerous people in the NFL, but inside the Steelers, it didn't come as a surprise. Many in the organization—including teammates, coaches and some members of the front office—believed Brown had started living by his own set of rules months before.

Ben is a dbag not sure how anybody couldn’t see that. Great QB but not a class act and not a true leader ala Brady. Brady is a dbag too but ten times the leader and example setter for his team. No wonder he usually schools Ben and has 6 rings.

TOMLIN should have been fired years ago. Guy is completely incompetent and only won a SB with a team he inherited that was loaded. His drafts have mostly stunk and his game management and adjustments are laughable but Rooney’s are still living in 1968 so we can’t fire coaches apparently.

AB became a WR diva and then either between some serious brain trauma or mental instability completely lost his ****. I mean everything with him looks completely justified he’s a lunatic.

Bell I think is actually the least to blame. He just wanted to smoke weed and get paid. He always made it clear that he was going to get his money he felt he deserved or hold out. I’m not saying the Steelers should have given him a big contract, RBs are not worth the risk but he was a good player and teammate just wanted his cash.

That was an interesting read. Normally I take bleacher report with a grain of salt but there is a lot of truth in there as well.

Harsh but I do agree, only in a nicer way. I respect Ben for what he has done for the Steelers but don't think he is a great person out of football. I've always said Tomlin should give his SB trophy to Cowher. Although I was on board with Tomlin until I watched how he coddled to players. AB is an idiot! I hate LB for all that went down and will root my ass off against him.

Another article confirming we have a head coach who couldn't reign in his players. This is news? AB acting like an ass clown at the Raiders tells me that maybe this is more him at fault. Lets see what LB does to support his case at the Jets.

Sad part is losing Brown will cost us wins. Think about the games we would have lost if it were not for Brown’s heroics .

I dont think the situation could have been prevented. Brown would have snapped over something else if it wasnt Ben . He’s clearly nuts .

This article gave me a better understanding of Tomlin's personality, as much as it did about the shortcomings of the star players. Tomlin should have treated Polamalu the same way Cowher showed respect to Bettis. The culture that Tomlin created has probably cost the organization at least one championship. It also demonstrated that Art II is no Dan.

There is only one leader in New England and that is the head coach. Tom Brady just happens to be a guy who is the Jerry Rice of Quarterbacks. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good.

As far as Big Ben and Mike Tomlin. Mike Tomlin will have the chance now to show how good he is. No more distraction, just football. Big Ben has never been or ever will be a leader. Ive watched every single game he has played, as I have seen every game Mike Tomlin has coached, leaders, are not their strong suit. But, Big Ben is what you put together when you build a Quarterback in the NFL. He has ALL of the physical and execution of an NFL QB. And, for me, that's good enough for me. Mike Tomlin, on the other hand, I hope he can prepare his teams against the **** ones this year, because that's been his problem his entire tenure and it has costs the Steelers playoff births and #1 and #2 seeds.

Geez give me a break, Big Ben not a leader...

I see all 3 members of the Roethlisberger hate club are out in full force today.

You know what they say, opinions are like azzholes. And some stink more than others.

You BR haters are the ones who continue to parrot the same tired old BS. It's as if you share one brain between 4 people.

I am not a BR hater! When did I say I didn't like BR as player? He isn't a LEADER! Reading Comprehension is important. This isn't **** I'm making up. BR had issues with players in the past and present. He isn't a leader. He is a Quarterback who does quarterbacking very well. That's it. Be happy with that.

Yep. And you are just parroting BS that you've heard from past divas. How in the ever living f%^# do you know what kind of leader he is? Yeah, that's right, you dont. For every disgruntled piece of sh!t who left on bad terms, there are exponentially more players in good standing who say otherwise that he is a good leader.

No, just pointing out that if you think Brady is equal to the greatest receiver ever, then the true "GOAT" would be equal to the greatest athlete ever.
I can't speak for how many people are at your house!

It really is simple. You say Ben is not a leader; however, you have no personal knowledge of him. Therefore, your opinion isn't valid. Don't overthink it, you aren't as smart as you think you are, gramps.
