I will say this for Sean Mahan. After practice at Latrobe one day he walked over to my grandson and gave him his sweaty lineman gloves. For a 9 year old that was like winning the lottery.

It depends on what they would have gotten along with a second-rounder for their first-round pick. I would rather have Harris than Freiermuth. Clearly, they thought they could pass on the top centers and take Green later, which was disastrous. They have had many opportunities to fix their problem at center the last few years and blew them all. Passing on Humphrey was just the worst offense.

Washington had a bad game against Jennings of the Patriots, but don't act like he hasn't pancaked some guys too.

I don't think they knew Green would be there in round 3. I mean he was on their board but he isn't the reason they passe don those centers. Landon Dickerson was rated as a 2nd round guy by every team in the NFL and he was gone by the time the Steelers picked in round 2. Most NFL teams rated Creed Humphrey as a 3rd round guy and he ended up going with the second to last pick in round 2. It wasn't just the Steelers that valued these guys this way, this wasn't Harris instead of Humphry or Dickerson.......not a single team thought they were first round picks.

He has, but he is playing like a rookie. He is often hesitant and slow to react, so he is getting beaten.

I don't think that is accurate about Humphrey. I saw some pre-draft rankings that had him near the end of the first round. He was easily a strong second-round value. The Steelers thought they could wait and take a shot on someone like Green later, which turned out to be a huge mistake.

I'm not arguing that they should have taken one of those guys over Harris. I am arguing that they should have taken Humphrey over Freiermuth, something I wrote at the time that turned out to be correct.

It isn’t just Washington. It isn’t just one game. Take it up with Merril Hoge if you don’t like it

Hassenauer replaced Green for the final two games of the season. In the first of those games, Najee Harris ran for 188 yards.

How they waited till the end of the season to replace that scrub Green is baffling.

That made no sense, and it looked even worse after the offensive line improved dramatically once they did make the change.

Hindsight is correct 100% of the time.

Humphry was a 2nd round pick in every mock I saw except for 1. He went in the 2nd so he clearly was evaluated as a 2nd round talent by everyone at the time of the draft.

I wrote that I wanted them to take Humphrey before they chose Freiermuth instead. So did many other posters here. That's not hindsight. That is knowing better at the time, then developments after the fact proved us right.

You claimed that most NFL teams projected Humphrey going in the third round. Now you are changing your tune to the second.

According the Steelers they liked Greens athleticism and felt he was a better fit for their zone blocking schemes than Humphrey who they felt was more of a road grader which allowed them to pick Muth instead.

Didn’t work out so well but we also don’t know how Humphrey would look in this scheme than the one he is in. Safe to say though he would have looked better than Green.

I don’t remember exactly how my board was laid out, but I do recall that Humphrey was very close to the top remaining player when we drafted Harris. Newsome was first and another corner (can’t remember who offhand) was 2nd. After that were Humphrey and a lineman from Notre Dame, again name eludes me at the moment.

But, yeah I definitely recall my having Humphrey with a low first round grade as not being out of line with the draft media outlets.

Harris was not on my first round list. But then again, I’m in the “never draft a RB in the 1st round camp.”

My bad, I mixed up Humphry and Dickerson on my 2nd response. Dickerson was a guy that was a round 2 projection with 1 being in round 1. Humphrey was round 2 or 3.
