I was born in the mid 60's and can't remember what the Pre Chuck Noll days were like but this current Steelers record must be similar to those repetitive losing seasons.

We as Steelers fans have been spoiled for a very long time and most of us cannot recall such a disappointing start to a season as this one has been.

This team has way too much talent on it to continue down this road of under achievement but a serious lack of leadership tells me that they may not have hit Rock Bottom yet.

At this point 2-14 may not be an unrealistic expectation of this squad. Heck, they couldn't even win a pre season game.

I never thought I would ever say that of the Steelers.

Sorry to be a pessimist but have the Steelers hit Rock Bottom yet or will we be seeing what the likes of the Bucs, Saints, Bengals and Browns fans have endured for many seasons?

How long til we start seeing the paper bags over peoples heads in the Stands?

I keep posting this, but I see us as bad... but not (necessarily) headed for years of torture. We have some pieces to build around, including a franchise quarterback, which is the hardest piece to find BY FAR. People can bash Ben all they want but he's still a gamer, and hall of famer in my eyes.

Finishing with a top 5 pick is the best thing that could happen to this team.

You have to hope that this trip achieved just that...rock bottom. As an NHL fan, teams go through stretches like this all the time where nothing goes their way and they can't seem to win. They go through a Blowout game, then they compete the next game but still lose, then suddenly they win one and everything seems to turn around for a while. The flaws eventually come back, but some confidence can really change things.

I said this in another thread also ..We Steeler fans are very spoiled ...

This is one of, if not the most revered franchises in the NFL, the ship will be righted sooner rather than later

I don't know where you all come up with this spoiled stuff : We hung on for 25 years between our 4th SB win until we won our 5th SB, hard to get spoiled with a 25 year drought, the fact is we don't like watching the incompetence from this coaching staff and their uncoached players, and the draft busts tomlin keeps reaching for every year, coach up the rookies and infuse some youth on this team, the only problem is these coaches cant coach these young players up to make them productive, the Oline is a perfect example of their lack of coaching ability, it's time to fire coaches starting at the top to turn this mess around, someone needs to straighten Ben out over his continuous turnover problem, this team cant compensate for his careless turnovers in their present sad state of affairs: They had a nice long plane ride home to think about their 0-4 start, they have two weeks to fix this mess, this will be a good test to see if they want to turn this skid around or not, also a good test to see if these coaches can coach or not, if we go 0-5 after the bye week then forget about any chance of salvaging this season.........

It depends on your definition of rock bottom.

I see rock bottom as the old Saints and Bucs teams. We are not there yet. And i don't think we will but we are a bad football team and deserving of the record we have.

a 25 year span between super bowl wins was pretty much rock bottom to me. im hoping this is just a blip in the radar.

this team does need to re invent its self though.

DL has been a defensive genius in NFL, but like all players and coaches his time has come. he scheme doesnt work unless he has the right pieces and unfortunately they dont have them and DL is either unwilling or not capable of adjusting to the players he has and to todays game.

Haley and Bens relationship i think has been WAY over blown. not only by us fans, but by the media as well. they have a working relationship and when things arent working they always appear to be worse than they really are.

the oline is bad, but could get better with a few players being put back to where they fell more comfortable and maybe an addition or 2.
the rbs might not be that far away from being real good. if Bell turns out to be the real deal i still think Dwyer and Jones could be a good group of backs.
the wrs and te's need help. i love Heath and hes great, but not getting any younger and in todays game 2 really good te's is almost a must. AB is becoming a legit #1A guy. i dont think he can carry the wr group alone. i still think they need another guy with size that Ben can just throw the ball to knowing hes gonna fight for it and get it. Sanders and Cotch are decent, but there is no way they should be #2 & #3 wrs. i would like to see Moye and Wheaton get real chances.

all in all i dont think this team is in for a long downward spiral. i hope they use the rest of this season to figure some things out so going into next year they know what they have.

last year they stunk down the stretch and this coaching staff didnt make any adjustment or changes. i think they thought since the calender changes so would the teams fate.

i say either these coaches start to show they can fix this or the FO needs to make some changes.

The Steelers are a bad team for sure. None of Noll's or Cowher's teams were 0-4 but they were at times almost as bad. 1988, 1999 and 2003 come to mind.

I think we are going to see a lot of changes as we are a victim of our success over the past many years. It has been a good run and I have enjoyed it as a fan. With our Salary Cap issues and a new offensive coordinator we will need to make some tough decision at the end of this year. We need to now more than ever build through the draft to keep cap numbers down, make tough decisions on our veteran players, look for low cost diamonds in the rough through free agency, and possibly look into trading players away for future value.

This is a position the Steelers have not been in for a long time and I hope the organization is up for the challenge.

Not even close, we haven't even had a losing season yet. Have a couple of 2-14, 3-13 type seasons, then you can say we hit rock bottom.

Rock bottom is a relative term. Given the Steelers history, I would say having a losing season is rock bottom. Given the history of the Rooney's they will just go along until it hurts them in their wallet. If the fans continue to sell out and continue to buy all the Steeler stuff, what's the worry? It is a business and if they can make money with a crappy team, do you really think they will care? Their M.O. is to wait it out, that is until the fans do not come.

A few more of those views of an empty Heinz field will get them to wake up.

I was there in the 60's with those poor teams. I remember the day they drafted Joe Greene, who? I remember them drafting Bradshaw and so on. I can remember those crappy days. But when Noll came along, things did change even though they were still losing. It is hard to explain but watching them you saw something. There was something there and it continued to build year after year.

Now, as for rock bottom? How about dropping two to the Browns in one season? Dare I say, cringe....now that is rock bottom.

If they can't beat the Jets with a rookie Qb after a bye week, then that will be even more rock bottom than this.

The Steelers have started badly before in my fan watching years, and then rebounded-1976, 1989, 2000 all come to mind , but at this point I just don't see more than a glimmer.

No, IMO we won't hit "rock bottom" until 2016 or 2017.

Ben Roethlisberger: Pittsburgh Steelers worst in NFL

There's no hiding it right now. The Steelers are a bad football team.
Pittsburgh is 0-4 for the first time since 1968 following a 34-27 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. Mathematically, the Steelers are still alive. But all indications tell us this team was dead on arrival.

Ben Roethlisberger, who flew all the way to London to suffer this latest indignity, didn't sugarcoat things after the game.
"Right now, you could say we're the worst team in the league, and that hurts," said Roethlisberger, who finished 36-for-51 passing for 383 yards, one touchdown and an interception. "And as a competitor, you don't like that."
Roethlisberger has played his part in the Steelers' lost September. His fumble in the red zone sealed the outcome in the final minute on Sunday. Of course, few quarterbacks could have kept this team in contention that long, given the sorry state of Pittsburgh's offensive line.
"I just have to hope and believe we can turn it around because we have to believe that we can still be a part of something special," he said. "And if you don't believe that, then you don't need to be on this team or be out here."
This is uncharted water for Roethlisberger, who's never been associated with a sub-.500 team during his decorated NFL career. Barring a substantial turnaround, that's about to change.

No. The Steelers are still fighting as is evidenced by the "almost" comebacks the last two weeks against the Bears and Vikings. They haven't quit like the Giants and Jags. They just aren't good.

At this point looking up at the Clowns, which sickens me, and not having a win, rock bottom in the standings, I would say yes at this time.

This team has way too much talent on it to continue down this road
Do we though? Just look at that star players on these other teams and compare them to ours. We are lacking talent all over the field. The lack of turnovers and big impplays alone suggests a simple lack of talent on top of a played out philosophy and poor decision making by fo. The steelers may possibly be the least exciting team in football right now and at least to me that says we lack talent.
