Aggression is both a good and bad thing. How many times is it 3rd and 1 and they miss on a 20-yard pass. Just get the first down and throw it 20 yards next play! I feel like he needs to be more aware of situational football. If he knows he is near the line to gain, go forward. If he is beyond it, or way behind it, then do what you feel you need to do.

 

Will they pull Kenny for Mitch? if Steelers start struggling against Raiders. Remember Tomlin never had a losing season.

Okay ,but why only 3 or 4 targets if he is catching most of them if not all of them ... He deserves more targets more to it than just match ups.. The OC Tomlin or the QB or a combo of all 3 are intentionally holding him back ..I could see him getting pissed and trying to sit out ...Even with his limited targets he is a hot commodity he could be the #1 WR on over 75 percent of the NFL Teams ..

He is much better than DJ even with the best CB and getting double covered , the kid makes his blocks in the run game he runs his routes full speed even if the decoy route they need to start showing some love , as stated if they don't things may get ugly..

 

For the most part, it is a poor decision to force the ball to a receiver who is covered or double-covered when you have another option who is open. It's not about showing love. It is about making plays. The Panthers couldn't cover Johnson. For the most part, they did cover Pickens.

This happened with Hines Ward and Plaxico Burress. Ward didn't become a Pro Bowl receiver until Burress emerged as a threat in 2001. Burress often drew No. 1 cornerbacks and double-teams not because he was better, but because he was such a difficult physical matchup due to his size and speed. He drew the defensive attention, so Ward got more targets.

 

It's all about winning and that is what Muth said earlier this year, paraphrasing but essentially "I don't care about targets as long as we win!!" That should be all that matters to every single person on the team period!

 

I see your point and I do agree to a point , but Plax still got his fair share of targets double and triple teamed as those types of WR'S should.. If you don't go to them often enough Defenses will stop sending extra coverage .. I contend more guys could be open if Pickens got more looks or at least more designed route combos ..ie 3 by 1 with Pickens as the inside guy on the trips sidethrow the tunnel screen as he is the blocker, next time you fake the block he runs the wheel most likely 1 on 1 coverage where is that play ?

I could go on and on , but the point is he has the talent to develope the entire playbook around him and failure to use a weapon like him is just bad Coaching and bad play from all involved.. Most Teams stud WR gets 12 to 15 targets a game a lot of those specifically designed just for them our guy getting like 4 looks a game ..I call BS throw the kid the damn ball ...

 

Ok...I see Your point, but see this point. If a man ....no matter who He is ...is getting double....especially triple covered.....someone is wide open.....therefore No Qb should be going there.

 

Exactly and if you target the guy the other Team can't guard 1 on 1 then the others have way more room.. All the other the RB'S have a bigger hole the OL have less guys to block , the QB has lesss guys to read and less guys to pressure it's scheme 101 ..We have a Queen and our playing him like a pawn.. Not sure what that strategy is all about ?

With a freak like Pickens the other Team should spend the entire week planning on how to stop him ..If they are not then he is not involved enough..

 

Agreed but the others aren't that open yet and the running lanes are not there yet so thats my point don't believe the smoke he is not being double or triple covered very often at all and he should be,,,that's on the Staff and the QB...

 

If there's one reason to hope for another loss this year it's to get rid of that damned "Tomlin never had a losing season" narrative. Actually our last losing season was in 2003, so this non losing season streak actually started with Ben 3 years before Tomlin showed up, yet we never hear "Ben never had a losing season".

This isn't meant to criticize Tomlin. I'm just tired of hearing how he's never had a losing season.

 

I don't know about the last game, but I know for a fact the game He was complaining about touches....the coverage was being rolled towards Him quite often, and other time they were bracketing Him. I went back ,and watched. Now this last game .....I'm not sure about. I haven't done a re-watch yet.

 

I don't disagree regarding the coaching. They have to do more by design to get him open. That said, part of this is on Pickens. He gets lazy with his routes sometimes. Another poster pointed out the sloppy things he does, like not bothering to put his mouthpiece in for runs away from his side of the field. He needs to button up the rest of his game, too.

 

It's like I said before. Since it started before Tomlin.....I never think of it as a Tomlin record. I think of it as a Steelers record....., and I want it to continue. I think only Tomlin Lovers, and Tomlin Haters think of it as a Tomlin record.

 

Let me know and if they are running a lot of bracket Coverage where are the combo routes behind him ? We should have guys running to the house .. If the OC is allowing that and doesn't understand how to stack or route combo behind it or designed running plays that develope into PA passes then we for sure need a OC..

If that's how they want it then 3 by 1 simple block down toss sweep to Pickens side if he makes the block it's our RB 1 on 1 with the bracket defender in open space .. I will take that all day and run that play until they show me another D..

 

Agree but let's not overlook the fact that it was against a very crappy team and once again a Big Time BNG crowd. Has to be embarrassing to see so many Steelers fans at away games for the hometown teams.

The Steelers did play very well though. I find that I don't hate Tomlin as much as I used to lately. Since he aint going anywhere I might as well deal with it.

 

This is why Canada needs to go. If Arians or Haley were still running that offense, they would be taking much better advantage of Pickens.
