Where is the line for "running his wheels off", versus having enough of a rushing game so Ben doesn't throw too many times?
I understand concern, since he is close to the top for running backs, but what would be the quantifiable right amount of usage?

If a running back is expected to have a 100 yard game, they are going to get at least 20-25 attempts.
Harris is averaging 19 rushing attempts a game.

    L. Jackson is averaging 12 rushes, 35 passes, and 3 sacks per game this season.
I don't see a lot of doom & gloom about his wheels coming off.

So they draft a running back #1 to bring the power punch back into the fold and keep Ben's throws down to a minimum. Mission accomplished.
    ,
He is the bell cow. He wants the rock. He is getting spelled but what's behind him on the depth chart is not Grade A. He is a large part of the Offense. You get him the ball by any means.
Yea lets take away more snaps from Harris and give Benny Snell deflated football, bad vision Ballage and what's my role McFarland more :roflmao:

Injuries happen unfortunately but you can't limit what this kid has already brought to the table.

As far as Conner is concerned good for him lighting it up. He could not stay healthy here. Plus his last season they were not committing to the run as they are now. He's a good kid and I wish him the best as long as he isn't playing the Steelers.

You don't draft a stud RB to only get him 10-15 carries a game .

In his first 6 years as a Steeler (starting in his 4th pro year), Bettis average rushing attempts per game per season:
    20.0, 25.0, 21.1, 18.7, 22.2, 20.5

Seems like running the wheels off a RB is an organizational-level problem, not a coach problem.

might as well run him into the ground. Runnningbacks aren’t worth 2nd contracts.

what history is that? Did he end a running back’s career?

The average length of a running backs career is under 3 years. Tomlin has had Willie Parker(6 year career). Rashard Mendenhall(6 year career) and Leveon Bell(8 year career).

You don't build an entire offense around one guy getting tackled 30 times a game with no backup plan.

Oh wait, did the same in 2014, too.

Running their wheels off because he doesn't give the backups reps, even when he has a decent one like Williams or Blount.

This year he's repeating a past mistake of not having an adequate backup plan.

So despite the fact that all of his primary running backs have had careers that more than double the average tomlin has “run their wheels off”.

How many seasons did they finish? Parker busted a leg late. Bell pulled up lame in all but one season. What good does it do to make the playoffs with Ben Tate?

You're so close, but still not getting it.

Once again, someone ignores facts just to argue with a person. Happens often here and always ends the same way.

Are you suggesting a 15-year head coach who many think is a HOF'er has zero input?

If Tomlin wants a guy, they get a guy.

Did I say anything about input?
It’s the general manager’s job to assemble the team. Period. The best coaching and gm duos work together. However, make no mistake the gm can override the coach. He is the coach’s boss after all.

The entire offense isn't built around Najee, that's why they drafted Freiermuth in the second round instead of Humphrey .

Colbert is more responsible for making sure they have a adequate backup plan, clueless.

This dude is impossible. Right, wrong or indifferent we have what we have. He acts like we ignored the OL in the draft. We didn’t.

Exactly. I could see His point if We didn't draft any Oline, or bring in Vets, but we did both. We just didn't do what he wanted. It's OK Maddog78....They don't always do what I want either. LoL.

Right. We get it. The Steelers didn’t build the OL properly. Tomlin sucks. Ben sucks. PFF is the best. Everyone knows his position. When are we going to get some new material?
