Like it or not, this should be an interesting season. From what I understand and read
from the people that have been around Todd Haley, he is going to speak his mind.
I am intrigued with how Coach T and position coaches handle this?
When Todd gets in the face of some OL and or WR or #7? And from all that I have heard,
he will do this. Will Coach T like or be able to handle this?
This should be fun to watch the interaction of these coaches.I would love to be
a fly on the wall in these coaches meetings.
I don't think the Steelers have dealt with this type of personality in a loooong time.

Haley was Tomlins hire and he knows full well what to expect from him. So i don't see any problem with Tomlin and Haley. The position coaches may have a different view of Haley but he'll be their boss so I don't see any issue there either. Tomlin knows what type of coach Haley is and i'm sure he knows he'll get in peoples faces if needed. That may be a big reason why he brought Haley in to begin with.

If and when Haley rips Ben, Tomlin isn't going to have a problem with it. Tomlin probably won't give it a second thought. Coaches rip players in every sport, it's completely normal. Haley may rip players more than some other coaches, but it's not like he's the only coach on earth who gets in players faces. I've seen Tomlin get in players faces before. I specifically remember him getting in Pouncey's face and screaming at him. Cowher was also known for getting in players faces.

People are making too big of a deal out of the way Haley does his job. He's not the devil, he's just a passionate coach with an in-your-face attitude, but he's far from the only one in the league.

Tomlin is going to let Haley do his job, it's why he hired him, he knows what he's getting. But, if Haley goes to far, gets out of line, Tomlin will put him in his place, just not publicly. Some hate the lack of emotion that Tomlin shows on the sideline, I guarantee he gives it to them in private if he has something to say. Tomlin comes across to me as a no nonsense don't f--k with me kind of guy.

It will be interesting, but cowher did the same thing. Granted he was the man in total charge.I for one can't wait to see how are offense excels under his guidance.

From the latest post on sd.com it looks as though we're going back to 3yards and a cloud of dust. So much for playing to our strength.

LOL, I don't think you have to worry about that. No one said they are trying to go back to a power running game. There's more then one way to utilize a running attack that doesn't involve running up the gut every play. A full balanced attack is better then a one dimensional air attack. Teams don't respect our running game anymore, if we hit teams with both, we'll be very hard to stop.

I'm not so sure about that. Haley's offenses have always been less balanced than his predecessors. I know its a shock, but its the truth. If you look at redman's comments and now Ben's it appears that we're going backwards. Initially I was under the impression that redman's was referring to using the backs more in the passing game, but after seeing Ben's comments I'm not so sure.

I agree...Haley threw the ball in KC every bit as much as he ran it. I believe what people saw is that he gave his RB a better opportunity to succeed. Matter of fact, with the QB's that Haley had in KC, I would have been inclined to run the ball, probably, more than he did. This is another reason I would like to see Mendy back. I believe under Haley Mendy would excell. I could be wrong but I don't think I am.

Yes, as far as I have been able to tell, Haley works with the tools he has. KC, no passing attack to speak of, had to run. Arizona, great passing attack, not so much of a running game. But here, he has his choice of both, I'm looking forward to seeing what he does with it.

He's proven he can excel in both areas. Can't wait to see if he can do it at the same time.

Our run game should be our strength......Hard to throw the ball in the Redzone esp. to the WR'S or without PA.......Haley is making the run game a prority because he knows you can force the D to play a certain way and create mismatches....Exactly what we should have been doing in the recent past...

Just like I stated for years we have a Team full of Man or Gap blocking OL ,but we try and run Zone,,,,we also have 1 of the best TE'S in the game and 1 of the top 3 power RB'S in the NFL......So when Haley has watched film on us in the past I am sure he was thinking man I am glad they are so predictable and that they are using the wrong blocking scheme and pass attack....

The bottom line is Haley wants to score the ball and he is not in Love with long Bombs ,,,he is doing exactly what he should be.....

If you approach a game with a pass 1st. mentality then what do you do when it isn't working?Thats why I hate pass to set up the run...

If you make a solid effort to establish a run game then Teams have to spend a lot of time in practice on how to stop it.....Then when you get in the game you can use PA or call pass plays from run sets that have guys wide open.....This can't be done if no one is affraid of your running game......

To make a feared running game it must be job 1 the better it gets the more balance you will have.....

Also I will add the last 2 starts Redman had he had defenders from both Teams crying for help to get him on the ground,,how can that not be a Strength?

So now Haley wants them to cry some more and then make them cry when Ben is hiiting Wide Open guys off of PA.....This is how you make a D fall apart....My hat is off to Haley I don't think I could plan it better myself....lol...

The man has started two games and you're already crowning him as one of the best backs in the league. Can you say small sample size? I love the way Redman runs, but our strength is Heath, Wallace,Brown,Sanders, and #7. I would love to get all giddy about our new OL, but 2 of them haven't even set foot on the practice field yet let alone won a starting job.

The pass game should be the Steeler's priority. It's more difficult to run the ball in the red zone then it is to pass. I don't believe the Steelers have one the top 3 power RB's in the league.

Haley's biggest scoring success as OC came with pass first approach in AZ. Haley got his chance as a HC because of his team's ability to pass the football in AZ. The AZ run games were pretty bad with Haley as OC. For the increase in scoring to happen the way some fans expect the Steelers will need Ben to pass the ball better. Play action can help but it's not going to be the staple that increases scoring in the passing game. It would be a mistake for the Steelers to not take shots down the field with the speed they have at WR.

What do you do when the run game fails? The Steelers had issues in the 90's because they couldn't pass the ball effectively enough in the playoffs. Run game keep games close and don't typically provide teams with high scoring offenses.

Dude, you sound like you are living in the 70's and 80's. The passing game rules in today's NFL because of the scoring opportunities that are provided. Just about every rule favors passing the football. Teams without good QB's typically HAVE to lean on the run game more often.

Haley had to pass in AZ, that's the whole point, he doesn't have to rely solely on one aspect of the game here. Make both equally deadly and defenses will be guessing all day long.

Without a doubt Redman is a top power runner his short yardage conversion stats prove that....If that doesn't do it for you look at his Yards after Contact numbers,,,still not enough proof for you watch the tape and count the # of tackles Redman breaks....

PA will help Ben pass the ball better, and I never said we wouldn't or shoudn't take shots down field....Of course we will ,but that want be the beginning of the playbook it will be a part of the progression which increases the chance for success...

Plus the use of PA will allow those speed guys to get their hands on balls quickly ,it makes perfect sense to get a 4.3 WR in a track meet with a 4.5 CB...

As far as what do you do if the run game is not there then you can turn to the passing game .....Very hard to establish the run late in games, even harder to earn the respect of DC'S if they don't think you are committed.....

The best Offense is a balanced one and to have balance you must run the ball.....Running the ball is an attitude that carries thru out the entire Team....When you get into a score fest you never break the will of the other Team....They simply asy hey we will get the ball back and score we have plenty of time.....When you start pounding the rock down their throats you can see the guys on the sideline starting to hang their head, knowing they will not get as many chances to get things clicking......

About time someone on the sidelines has some fire and a get in your face approach, haven't had that since Cower left and Coach Yawn showed up. A team takes the attitude of its coaches.

You can ask quite a few offenses from 2008 (or any other year) what the attitude of our defense has been like under Tomlin.
