Drop the hammer on them. Get caught gambling and you’re done. No ifs, and, or buts about it.

So these guys make pretty good money. What do they hope to accomplish by gambling on football games? Man I just don't get it.

Never mind. They are allowed to gamble on other sports. Seems to me that perhaps they should be not allowed to gamble on any sporting event but then they are adults and should be able to control themselves. Man I surely hope this doesn't go to far. you're not allowed to bet from team facilities or while traveling with the team. Pretty clear actually

They’re grown men given the opportunity to make millions playing a game. They have to make a decision for themselves. Be a professional athlete or a gambler.

IDK the allowances per se, but as you said the issues were many were gambling from within team facilities, and some of those bets were on other sports. The gambling itself was not the issue, but the location from where the bet was placed. Rodgers reportedly used a phone under another persons name and placed bets on football, including his own team. That is a massive difference, even if the bets were just 25 to 50 bucks, you just cannot have that.

This 100%. It's the same with weed. While I don't frown upon it....it's a rule. If I could stop smoking for a job welding....they can stop for millions of dollars.

What I dont get is....why doesnt he just have a friend or family member put the bet in?? Wouldn't that make more sense?

EDIT, I just saw he did put the bet through someone else......and he still got caught. Hmm.

He had a phone with someone else name on it... Meaning he absolutely knew it was wrong and was trying to get around it.

I'm pretty sure there's an app you can install that location blocks apps for you. So, if you really like using the betting apps and don't want to mess up, use it!

Exactly. The average NFL career is about 4 years, and even of its not....its not a lifetime. Also they can gamble....just not on the NFL, and not from their NFL teams facilities.

That seems to be the hard part. They have the app on the phones, they figure they can do it while hanging out between reps or whatever and not get caught.

It's a thousand times easier now to participate. I get it there are plenty of guys that can stop addictive behaviors to keep a job, there are also guys that can't. Just like any walk of life.

There are folks that can stop smoking to get a job at a fast food place and there are folks that can't. You'd figure the stakes are higher with the kind of money these guys are getting, but we see otherwise.

I see where Iowa St and Iowa are looking into gambling with their athletes.
This has to be nipped in the bud real fast in all of sports before it gets out of line.
    The fix is in!

Even if the NFL discovers it has a huge problem they cover it up. No matter what they will keep it from the public. There is no way Aaron Rodgers could pass a drug test yet he has never been caught?

It’s easy if you have no idea how to pass an unobserved drug test.

Please explain that comment. I'm assuming this has to do with him taking a hallucinogenic drink at some retreat he was on. That drink is not detectable by the tests and probably not illegal? I don't know

I am not naive enough to think the NFL has not covered up things, but as many questionable actions these players have done recently, gambling that is, there is no way to hide it. With the contracts in place with the gambling concerns, a team now In Vegas, the need for authenticity will keep them open...the amount of money they are making..and will make is astounding...you try and cover up scandal and Government will come on and regulate the hell out of those profits.

Nfl drug tests are the simple urinalysis. They are also unobserved. Meaning there is no one in the room watching you. They hand you a cup, walk into the bathroom alone, deposit your sample, and walk out.

I believe that would be out of his system for what they check anyway. At least I think it would be.

Now it would be OK for a college athletes to play NFL Fantasy football right? Assuming they are over 18.

I think it would also be okay for them to be betting on NFL games; If it is legal in their state.
