Connor is more of a 4-3 guy and most accounts say that he struggled in the 3-4 last year. Good tackler though. I wonder what's happened with Foote? I though the Steelers expressed interest in wanting him back.

They did express interest, but he must be asking more than they'll pay. He left once for money though and seemed like he regretted it.

I thought the Lions only gave him like $900K or something like that. He left because he was about to be either relegated to backup behind Timmons, or cut. After his one season there, he wasn't going to be making any more money based on his performance. I'm not sure they even wanted him back at all. That's why it's ridiculous that we gave him over $8 million for 3 years.

You could be right. I thought he got a pretty decent contract from Detroit, but couldn't find the number with a quick search.

I can't read the tweet at work...who's Conner, was it a trade? I thought Foote played well last year and thought it would be good if he stuck around, as we need vet leaders

We've been a very well run organization for a long time, but the last 5 years have made me really question the financial management of this team. Too many bad contracts being given out.

Dan Connor who played at Penn State. He's been with the Cowboys the last year or two and spent several seasons with the Panthers. He'd be a free agent signing.

Connor would be a slight upgrade to Foote in my opinion. A solid tackler, smart player, but little else. The big difference is Connor has had a bad injury history. It'd be an okay temporary fill in guy if he's cheap.

If it happened I'd be ok with it. I agree with SBD in that he would be a slight upgrade.

For me, Connor falls into the "I'm not so sure, but if the team signs him, I'll like it, because I trust them more than I trust me" category. And that's a small category, because as many of you know, I know everything.

I think it's been a really tricky past five years.

We had to give long-term deals to guys like Woodley and Timmons because they showed so much promise early. We had to go long-term with Ike because he was the only corner we had. We had to bring back guys like Randle-El, Foote, and McFadden because we lacked depth in those areas, they knew the system, and had performed well in the past. And we had to extend guys like Polamalu and Harrison because they were playing at the top of their games at the time. And we've had to restructure a dozen contracts to allow us to continue to make title runs. It seems to be catching up to us now but you can't blame 'em for making a hard run at a world title with that core group.

Hindsight obviously leads to these types of questions but I don't know how unpopular many of the decisions were at the time. Hindsight also says we've done a good job of letting go of some people when it was the right time to go (Plax, Santonio, Faneca, Marvel Smith, Aaron Smith, Hines, etc).

In the past 5 years, we've won a Super Bowl, participated in another Super Bowl, made the playoffs three times, went 12-4 three times (including the year before last), and have yet to have a losing record.

I guess it takes just one 8-8 season to create the perception the sky is in quick descent.

That's how I see it, too. A Super Bowl makes everything worth it. And we were one drive away from winning a second (for some guys third) Super Bowl. Hell, without any one of those brutal turnovers, we probably win it.

At 27 years old this really could turn out to be a great deal for the steelers.

I think Foote would retire first. Hes been outside the black and gold and he didnt like it. When he came back he said he didnt care if he was a backup, he just wanted to be back.

    isn't he rosannes husband?

there is also the LB'er from the packers out there as a FA. they do play the 3-4. better fit maybe.

foote made tackles but was also last in the league in yards after contact. he was also again last in pass coverage and yards after the catch. too many just look at tackle numbers and see a good year, but you have to dig deeper to see what his game truely is about.

he also gets caught up in the wash when blitzing and run defense alot. losing weight helped his speed a little but took away stregnth to hold his ground in the run game and blitz game.

timmons and woodley have been here long enough that footes vet presence is overstated i think.

Let foote go he's slow and old. So old he replaced Kendrell Bell as a starter. Arizona reportedly wants him..... I hear Az is a great place to retire to though.lol BUT

Foote leaving is not a loss other than it begs he question who steps up? The stats on Foote speak for themselves, and there are no worthy arguments to keep him other than who takes his spot? Personally, I just don't see a practice squad guy moving up in one offseason and starting. I'm thinking draft for the answer

to embed a tweet you go to the tweet details and get the numbers at the end of the web address for that specific tweet. Copy/paste that in between the tweet tags so it looks like this: ["tweet"]270688453740613633["/tweet"] (minus the quotes).
