My opinion is that he earned a new contract with a raise. To be the highest paid player ever? Ever? Nonsense. He's a good player with a really good team around him.To pay him more than Brady, either Manning, Rodgers, Brees, Ben, even Rivers is insane. Tren Dilfer was an adequate QB with a really good team around him and he got released. Flacco just ain't that good. Glad he's not with the Steelers. The Ravens O-line, however................

As much as I hate Phillip "alligator arms" Rivers, I honestly think that with the same supporting cast Rivers is the better QB. Rivers can't be faulted for the fact that the Chargers, as an organization, suck.
WTF has Flacco done to deserve more money than Ben?????

You missed the start of my first comment which was, "my opinion is," Living here, I see WAY too many Chargers replays on TV and, when given time, Rivers is a more accurate passer. You can't compare W-L records or completion percentages because the supporting casts are different. If you're implying that Flacco deserves more money because he won his playoff games and the SB..........................Trent Dilfer, Brad Johnson, Joe Namath.................
so..........what has Flacco done to deserve more money than anyone else?

I didn't miss anything. You said in your opinion, Flacco getting paid more than Rivers is insane so I asked you what Rivers has done to deserve more than Flacco.

The fact is that QBs are rated based on their performance and Flacco has done better than Rivers. Last time I checked, Rivers hasn't played in a Super Bowl let alone won or been named Super Bowl MVP.

Flacco has done better because he has better players around him. Better coach. Most importantly, better owners. Last I checked, Ben has won 2 out of 3 SBs, Brady has won three Eli has won 2.
So................WTF has Flacco done to deserve more money than those guys?
My OPINION is still that Rivers is a better QB than Flacco.

I don't agree with that, SD have a very good team there for a while, there was some real talent on that 14-2 team coached by Marty. They had that team for a few seasons and Rivers couldn't win.

I guess Ben having a great running game early in his career and a top-ranked defense for pretty much his entire career have nothing to do with Ben's success. Nah...

One thing to keep in mind too, it isn't like Rivers isn't getting paid. His last deal was (I believe) $15-16mm/year.

Through the years, the Chargers have had several good teams but there's always been an important element missing. When they had a good offense, their defense sucked (see the air Coryell years) and vice versa. The last time they were any good, your 14-2 team, the coaching staff choked by going into prevent mode. Mostly, the Chokers suffer from apathetic ownership and fans..............and the curse I put on them in the early 70s.

Well you just described every coach to ever put on a headset. Do you think you could distribute some of that hatred for the Chargers to the rest of the league and throw a little curse their way? Come on man, be a Steeler fan and help them out.

:rolleyes:Of course the TEAM contrbuted to Ben's success. That's true of any QB. If you'll recall, Ben didn't become the highest paid player after the win against AZ.
Does Flacco deserve a new contract with a big raise? Absolutely! Is he so good that he deserves to be the highest paid player ever? Absolutely not.

Flacco played lights out in the post season, won a SB, and was named MVP. You couldn't have had a better post season than the one he just had. And it couldn't come at a better time either. If not the Ravens, then someone who have thrown an obscene amount of money at him. Just look at what the Chiefs paid Matt Cassel after his 11-5 year in New England. There are a lot of desperate teams out there who need a QB. Flacco drove his value to the highest level and the Ravens didn't have an option but to pay him.

Doesn't mean that he's better than Rivers. Or Ben. Or Eli. Although he's a good QB, he's not as good as those guys. Not considering his entire 5 year body of work. But its a 'what have you done lately' kind of league and lately Flacco is the best the league has. And he's going to have that title until the season starts again. Can he keep it? I doubt it, but the great thing is that the Ravens HAD to over pay for QB who is in the 8 - 12 range as far as QBs. About the only negative is that this will drive the QB pay bar to even new heights. Aaron Rogers is grinning from ear to ear right now. Its a good thing the Steelers have Ben locked up for a while.

    HELL YES !!!
    Flacco had a great postseason
i remember seeing interviews and reading reports of him crying about his old OC and that he actually called CAM CAM 's playbook throughout the playoffs
    instead of using Caldwell's BS

That's exactly my point. We're not even talking about All-Pro (which he hasn't even sniffed). The ridiculous Pro Bowl takes like three quarterbacks from each conference. Then, one or two back out because they understand what a joke the game is so another one or two 'alternates' are invited.

Pretty amazing that a guy receiving the highest salary in the entire league (at any position) isn't even regarded by his peers, and fans, as one of the top three or four quarterbacks in his conference.

Which begs the question: if his late bomb at Invesco would have been picked (or merely batted down) . . .

are we having this discussion? Does he still get the contract?

So Flacco isn't a popular player. Who cares? The fact is he had a great season and an even better postseason. He has been one of the more consistent QBs the league for a few years, won the Super Bowl and was the MVP. Yeah, yeah... He has a great supporting cast and they make him look better than he is, blah, blah, blah... but QBs are ranked based on their stats regardless of who else is on the field with them.

I don't know why some people are so pissed off about his contract. Why does it matter??
