Yeah, the guy sucks. Right in front of you is his record. He sucks at defensive picks. The Steelers need to contract out for defensive scouting.

Since 2011 Colbert's drafting record for defensive players sucks. 6 good or better picks out of 32. Besides he does not have a win lose record. It is Tomlin who makes silk purses our of the pig's ears Colbert drafts. Tomlin will be in the Hall of Fame and Colbert will looking in from the outside.

Oh I see now just since 2011. And nothing like cherry picking to support your argument?

Who? Oh "No hands Taylor." He was good not great but I'd take good. I went back to 2011 because that covers the current team.

People always bangin on about Ike Taylor but he was a good corner.. better then average imho.. dude could cover their best receiver and shut em down most times. Sure he had stone hands but so long as he kept the receiver from catching the ball who gives a rip

Agree with this. He was a shut down corner, he lost a step at the end and thats what everyone remembers but his early years, he was top notch. Who doesn't slow down at the end?

Wish we had an Ike on the team now.

Beathard with the Skins had the luxury of an owner who didn't mind spending a lot in the no cap era. It would be interesting to see how he would do now.

I think I was calling Tuitt a bum because I had very high expectations for him going into last year and he was terrible. I know everyone says he was hurt but so far reports out of camp is he looks like ****. He’s obviously got potential but like so many players certain people around here prop up, show me something! Talk is cheap.

This might be the worst thread ever made. Yeah, lets fire the best GM in the league. He'd have a job five minutes after. Look at when the best dbs in the league were drafted not many late 1st or in later rounds. Then mix in some bad coaching, Carnell Lake apparently did nothing. Tomlin was a DB coach for 7 years and defensive coordinator for 1 year in the NFL and apparently can't coach them up. Then factor in most of the great DBs play in a 4-3 defense and not an outdated 3-4. If the d-line and lbs can't get to the QB and missing tackles left and right it's making their job even harder.

He had a torn bicep. The fact that he played at all with that is pretty impressive.

He's going to be a beast this year.

GM power rankings: Howie Roseman, Kevin Colbert among best

    Kevin Colbert #2
"The Steelers' loyalty to head coaches (they've only had three since 1969) is well-documented. The team's continuity in the front office, where Colbert has run the personnel department since 2000, is even more crucial. The Steelers have had one losing season since then, and 12 seasons with double-digit wins, including two titles. Colbert puts his coaches in position to win titles, and it's up to them to do the rest. His biggest decisions -- like drafting Ben Roethlisberger 11th overall in 2004 -- have been among his best. His wide receiver picks, stretching from Plaxico Burress to Santonio Holmes to Antonio Brown to JuJu Smith-Schuster, are routinely difference makers. Colbert oversaw the transition from a dominant defense to the league's most talented offense, all while actively avoiding the spotlight. His media guide bio is barely longer than this writeup."

From the above link for 1st round picks.

Sorry but the data does not support your biased conclusion. You cherry picked a couple names to support your point.

    What about
    Ben Roethlisberger
    Maurkice Pouncey
    David Decastro
    Antonio Brown (6th round pick)
    Ju Ju Smith

    former players
    Troy Polamalu
    Santonio Holmes
    Casey Hampton

The list goes on and on. Every team has their busts in the 1st round. Just ask the Cleveland Browns.

Many people disagree with you, and I do too.

Colbert is a top3 GM, IMHO. Steelers would be stupid to fire him. Overall, he's done great. How many teams have won 2 Super Bowls in the last 15 years? Giants, Steelers and Patriots. I don't expect him to be perfect... but I hope there's some improvement in drafting of LBs and DEs.

I agree with the original post. Colbert has drafted close to 100 players over the years and yet we can't put together a roster of 53 future HOFers. Unacceptable! Nor has he signed a single UDFA that's made 1st team all pro. To make matters worse, I heard that our water boy is only average also. Colbert has to go! :noose:
