WOW talk about not calling some things. May not have been intentional, but damn crown of the helmet to the earhole knock-out is a targeting call everywhere else. Of course they were still up by 14, but...

That was a shoulder to shoulder hit. I mean, they are usually 99% to 1% when reviewing those calls in favor of targeting and didn't see fit to call it.

For good reason, the angle from which he was approaching (behind and to the right) made it almost impossible to lead with his head and make helmet to helmet contact.

Great football play, surprised Steeler fans are so soft in this regard.

Apparently they didn't review for targeting, from what I'm hearing, they only reviewed the catch?

Normally when there's any helmet contact like that they call it. Looked like he got him ear-holed him with the crown. They've called it for way less

Ohio State has benefited from softer calls last year.

Must be soft then, because those are the type of hits they say they're trying to get out of the game.

He didn't earhole him, at worst it's facemask to shoulder. This is the best angle I've seen, but would prefer an aerial view above them.

Also, the player took three steps and tucked, bracing for impact. By definition, he was not a defenseless player at that point, so the call is short-circuited there.

The college rule doesn't need defenseless player for targeting. He can be a RB and still get it called for it.

Only thing that saved it was you could say he didn't initiate contact with the head or neck area. Shoulder hit slightly before.

They just called Penn State for it today, almost identical except the helmet contact was easier to see. Kid as coming in arms tucked leading with the shoulder as well. Play wasn't called initially by officials and was reviewed during a timeout.

Pitt looked good today. Totally unsure if it's because UMass is that terrible or Pitt is finally taking steps in the direction. I'm suspicious that it's more of the former than latter. Only time will tell. Tennessee will be a solid test for Pitt.

Sometimes it just looks so much more energetic!

Bodies flying everywhere! Big hits every other play!

Georgia/Clemson was really good for that today. Announcers kept giving Georgia's O-line and D-line props and I'm thinking Clemson only allowed 3 points as well. Only reason Georgia's line looked good, was because they didn't have to take chances to move the ball after they got that lead in that type of game! They found one thing and used it!

I hope so. I'll root for them regardless, but I have low expectations until they actually prove it.

    Thanks for the clarification.

That is the rule - initiating contact. The "only thing that saved it" was the fact that he didn't commit targeting.

The PSU guy lowered his helmet and earholed the RB. Easy call.

    I totally agree.
I also thought that Clemson, Georgia game was great. I know some don't like that kind of game, but I enjoyed it.

I’m slowed down the video of the Ohio state guy hit. When the hit is made the receivers entire body goes back in the same line through the spine. The head did not snap or move. That was a clean hit and I don’t like The.

On the Penn State hit, the head snaps. That is what needs to be prevented. It was a penalty, and a bone head play. And I am a PSU fan.

It's all about the angle of approach from the defender - almost impossible for Ransom to earhole the MN receiver from behind unless he's got a Merton Hanks neck.

My Louisville Cardinals looked like hot garbage Sunday Night the fan base wants the coach fired. He beat Michigan at Appalachian State which is why they hired him IMO. But he’s clearly over his head.

I thought this would be an easy game for Pitt. Tennessee is like the 2nd worse team in the SEC

Definitely. Pitt is what they are ya know. I'm surprised we gave up that many points, but made the stands they needed to. Overall, I'm excited over today's game. Winning in Neyland isn't easy.
