I would like to state I am all for Dirty Red, he is a football player. There is a reason though
why so many teams passed on him. LJ Fort is the real deal and will replace
LT (Contract expires) next year for the PGH Steelers. LT will have to take a HUGE paycut next year to stay
    on the PGH Steeler roster.

I **** you not, LJ Fort has made LT expendable. Unless LT takes a huge pay cut next year, he will be playing
    for a new team.

Fort looks very good as does Rogers maybe making Wheaton a guy who is not needed our entire RB chart will force the money of Bell back down to earth ...

This Team is about to reach the crossroads either sell the farm and go for the big run or save the money and prepare to rebuild...Usually we already have guys in place and don't have to go full rebuild , but our depth is crap in a lot of spots and that's the 1 thing you can learn from the preseason...When this key group is gone we are in rebuild mode..

Rebuild? That's what we've been doing the last few years.
We're setting up for a run the next few years.
We'll keep the Guys we want.

Well if we have been in rebuild mode we have failed ... It takes 1 of 2 things to be Champions and we have neither when the key players are gone ....To win you need a Franchise QB, which we all would agree we don't have once Ben is gone....Or it takes a great Defense which I think all will agree we don't even have right now much less when JH,Gay,Mitchelle and those guys are gone ...

If we are setting up for a run we better make some big splashes in key areas or we will end up with no title and no players .....

"Transition" dude. That's the "official" term for what mode we've been in. LOL! Wasn't that what they were saying? I mean that phrase?

I generally agree. We've been doing what we can to set up for a serious run these next 2-3 seasons. The team is not flawless, but neither is any other team. As soon as a team gets dominant, it gets at least partially dismantled. That's the way of free agency. We will lose some key guys, but that's not a Steeler thing, it's an NFL thing.

The key is of course Ben.

Agreed. This team has been built to win with offense, not defense. They are set up for the next 3 or 4 years to make a run.

Yeah we aren't in rebuild mode. We have a pretty good window the next few years to really make a run at a super bowl. Ben will play another 3-4 years and in the meantime we will draft a replacement probably in the first round. If we can ink Bell and Brown to deals and keep the OL in tact we should be able to transition the Offense pretty well to life without Ben...

The defense on the other hand is just now coming out of a retool. We lost so much from the 2011-2012 season and there after. We haven't done an amazing job drafting defense recently, but we got Tuitt Heyward, Shazier, Dupree, Burns, Hargrave, and Davis that can become players. Heyward and Tuitt are already there. We just need a star out of this group and for a couple other to be real good players. The defense isn't too far off IMO.

I don't understand why people think we are far off? There is no such thing as a perfect team. We have an elite level offense at full strength and the defense, while mediocre righ now, is young and can improve over the course of the year. I don't see any reason why we can't make a run at it this year. Last year's team came a fumble away from knocking off the eventual SB champs on the road and that was with a banged up Ben, no Bell and DWill, no AB... That's basically every dynamic piece of our top related offense.

I got no Idea what YGBSM means either. I have a degree in computer science

Edit. In the Computer package class I had to Take "Introduction to the Internet Online" One of the assignments was send your instructor an email using Internet chat lingo. I tried to use every slang string I ever saw in chat rooms. "which was another assignment, go into chat rooms and mingle" She the instructor sent me an email and said, Richard, what the hell are you trying to say?? I stopped by her office and explained it to her. She had been teaching the class for years. Never knew the book told you to do it. I did get extra credit for it haha-

Fort has been around for a good while:

    From SB Nation:
    Player: L. J. Fort

    Position: ILB

    School: Northern Iowa

Overview: L.J. Fort has had an interesting start to his career. Injuries to a slew of Cleveland Brown linebackers allowed him to start his first career game, and it started with a bang he grabbed an interception and added a sack. While he started the next 15 games he would go on to get cut by the Browns in the offseason, and would proceed to bounce around the league failing to earn playing time while making pit stops in Denver, Seattle, and New England before landing in Pittsburgh last year.

Spending most of 2015 on the practice squad finally replacing the injured Roosevelt Nix, and getting some special teams snaps in the Steelers divisional loss to the Denver Broncos. In 2016 he finds himself battling for one of the last spots on the roster in one of the Steelers most loaded position groups.

In all likelihood the Steelers will roster 5 middle line backers. Fort will have to battle Steven Johnson, Tyler Matakevich, and Jordan Zumwalt for the last couple of spots on the roster. His experience with the both the scheme and special teams would seem to give him a leg up on the competition, but this will be one of the more interesting decisions the coaching staff will have to make.

Exactly my point. He has been around awhile yet a rookie is playing on par with him. To me you go with the rookie as having the higher ceiling. Of Fort was blowing Red away it would be one thing but he isn't.

My point exactly, in 12 days we have to cut 37 players and I dont see how fort can miss the cuts, he is in his 5th year in the league and coaches have to evaluate him as a 5 year player and not as a rookie, and honestly ask your self does he look like a 5 year player to you, to me since he is a veteran he is at best a B level linebacker, he should be making plays in this pre season challenging starting LBs but he isnt even close to doing that, I know some of you guys are pulling for fort, but he is what he is, not what you want him to be....
