According to reports the media started to inquire aftyer the draft about why the Steelers passed on him, I read somewhere even if he was available in the 4th or 5th they weren't going to draft Lacy. I like Bell but I thought Lacy was the better prospect for the Steelers and was shocked they passed on him in the second round. I think they were more worried about his toe injury after last season than the hamstring there are reports he had toe fusion surgery whatever the hell that is.

As far as I know, he was never on their board, I don't think they ever brought Lacey in but they did bring in Bell, they were high on him the whole time, made that selection in a second when they picked him. But yes, that's why Lacey dropped, medical injuries.

I predict Lacy will have an impressive first season with the Pack, and then fade to injury-prone mediocrity. We made the right choice not to go with him - whether Bell was the right pick or not.

I actually saw a headline that said they "would not touch him" because of his toe. If you watched the Haley presser I posted he said there were reasons that he didn't wanna go in to as to why they didn't draft him. Maybe he didn't wanna stigmatize the kid but if that were the case why would they come out and say this now? Who knows?

This was discussed in a different thread earlier. Bouchette said that a team source said they wouldn't touch him because his big toe had been fused. The hamstring thing was publicly known, as was his turf toe injury from a couple years ago, but this is the first I've heard of the toe being fused.

I'm making the call....Lacy is lazy and that, along with his weight, will be an issue until he becomes a has-been....

They brought Lacy in a week or 2 before the draft

Also, it's not really a big indicator of whether or not he was on their board. He may not have been, but it's not uncommon for them to draft guys that they didn't bring in for a visit. In fact, I only recall them bringing Mike Adams in for a pre-draft visit last year. Don't quote me on that though.

Yeah I remember reading about it and the article said something like it almost seemed like a secret as they didnt find out until days later or something. I think i read it on the Depot or something. But yeah.

And it makes me think when Haley said something like "IN THE END Bell was our #1 ranked RB"...did they have Lacy 1st before and then had him in...and his injuries/etc eliminated him? Who knows...just a thought though...

I hope you're right (not that I am hoping for any rookie to fade into mediocrioty).

I think we picked the right guy. The Alabama OL could compete against many DLs in the NFL. Bell's OL may have been decent but he didn't run through the huge holes Lacy did.
