Does trading Pickens mean the end of us signing Rodgers?

Yeah, and Mercedes Lewis too I suppose. He'd likely want to get his little band back together.

I've followed that clown show the last few years. I really hope Rodgers decides not to come to the 'Burgh. They probably see him as their best chance to remain in playoff contention, but I just can't stomach this pathetic version of Rodgers playing for my favorite team.

I ceased being a Tomlin fan years ago, but I can see where he would prefer the veteran Rodgers over someone unproven like Howard, or even over someone with some starting experience like Rudolph. He wants to remain competitive and sees Rodgers as the best chance to remain so, even if it may not be true.

I'd rather them go with what they have, continue to develop the younger players on the team, and decide if Howard is the future by virtue of playing time later in the season, and move on to 2026 from there. If they add a veteran receiver like Cooper, Allen, or even Davis or Boyd, it would benefit the QB room more than bringing in a burn out like Rodgers to 'mentor' anyone.

I have mixed feelings about Rodgers. There is no doubt in my mind that he is their best option if they want to be competitive in 2025 but he is just so unbearable as a human being.

I like Mason but we know what he is at this point and the ceiling for the team will always be low with him.

With Rodgers there is at least a chance that the offence gets hot for a playoff run.

I don't get why there's people with so much hate for Omar Khan. Everything he's does is not going to be a home run. But overall, I think he's done a fantastic job and has been an extreme upgrade over his predecessors. I see him as a beginning of a new front office that has a different outlook from what we have seen over the last decade.

There have been a few draft duds, and a few free agency trades that weren't the most successful. But even with some of those, I attribute it more to the misuse of those players by the coaches. The only one that I have really scratched my head about was the DK Metcalf trade. They spent a lot of money bringing him here without a quarterback to utilize somebody of that level and cost. It may be that they had hoped to get Rogers or who knows, maybe they still have Rogers on the hook. Or maybe they just see him as the guy to educate other wide receivers on the team like Roman Wilson. Or maybe the situation with George Pickens has been brewing a lot worse behind the scenes than most of us realized and they knew he was on his way out. Either way, that's the only trade that is potentially harmful because of its cost.....imo

Fair enough. I guess the riddle will be answered in the near future about the direction they go in.

Rodgers still gives us a better chance of being competitive this year and that should be the goal

Any thought less is detrimental to the team long term

I realize people who have never lead any team or organization may not understand this

That is the world we live in

Half of the population is less intelligent than the other half by definition

Allow for the fact the left half on average have more time to spend on the internet and the right half on average don’t this skews the responding population even more to the left

Hence when someone posts something illogical several people agree

Its the first round draft picks that he seems to really suck at.

His First 1st round draft pick could not beat out Chucks for the starting RT job or Dan Moore for the last 2 years at LT
His second 1st round pick played half a game his rookie year.
Now, his third 1st round pick is reported to have a bad should and may require surgery to fix it.

Yep, that was the correct answer. I should have said the Falcons.

I’d agree with this if it remotely made sense

You are right. Steelers should have signed him and made it official before it’s too late.

Better theory; Rodgers will wait until after mini-camps to sign because he has no interest in starting preseason early. Plus the team doesn't want a constant barrage of questions on when he might show up if he signs earlier rather than later.
Rodgers doesn't need the work and the rest of the QBs on the roster could use the work. Also, he will not play in a preseason game.

Poni reaches on many of his takes but this one isn't all that unreasonable even if it is speculation. Rodgers game is about quick timing decisions. If a receiver can't be in the right position at the right time he will not be targeted. It's what got Williams in trouble in NY.

I don't disagree that Rodgers offers the best chance of being competitive. I just cannot stand the guy. He certainly is not the talent he was, even a few short years ago, but the latter part of this past season showed he can still perform at a higher level than what we experienced from the QB position last year.

I don't fully agree with your 2nd statement though. Long term, the Steeler's need to be constantly evaluating the talent on the roster, particularly Howard and the O Line. With Rodgers on the field, they won't get a broader view of Howard to determine where/what they need at the QB position going forward. They also need to judge the progress of the O Line. Frazier is likely the most solid player they have there, as the guards are questionable with Sepaulo in the final year of his contract and starting to decline, and McCormick (though I like him a lot) still in the early development stages. The Tackles are shifting too, so we don't know how that will play out. Hopefully, they will answer that concern and provide the bookends every team wants. This will also affect the running game, though I think Kaleb Johnson will surprise people and Warren will continue to be the exciting player he has been.

I just have the opinion that, even though going with Rudolph and Howard through the upcoming season may be a step back, it may be their best chance to reset the organization and roster moving forward and allow them to fully determine how to use the vast amount of draft capitol they have for 2026.

I can't see the need to bring Rogers in any more.
I'm not really confident in that they have any plan.
You really want to use Free Agency to add role players or that kind of player that can get you over the top.
But you don't want to build a team on it.
I don't think the Steelers are a player away from a Super Bowl.

    re: Howard
Howard in my opinion is a bit of a wildcard.
I'm hoping they keep an eye on him during camp and preseason... if he takes advantage of his opportunities, challenge him more.
It he truly bests Mason, then put him on the field.
He's sort of a "See where this ride goes" in my opinion.

Conversely, if he sucks or doesn't develop.. he most certainly can ride the pine.'
