Sort of like the energy crisis back in the 70's when we here in Pa
could get gas by the day of our license plate number. Gosh I am old.

Yes, and you were limited to getting no more than $5 of gas at a time. For the youngsters you can google "Jimmy Carter" and "malaise" to find out all about it.

Joe Flacco had some success. So did Nick Foles. The tall guys didn't fail because they were over some magic height number.

Joe Flacco and Nick Foles are 6'6 though. Over 6'6 was the key here. Think Brock Osweiler or even Mike Glennon.

In addition, that number is influential for multiple reasons. For starters, the arch in which the ball travels out of your hand at over 6'6, 6'7 in Lynch's is going to be much different than say 6'5.

Where did you find info on 'ball arch' based on QB height difference between 6'6/6'7 vs 6'5? I gotta have a look at that study.

Lynch only started 4 games in his career, had 4 TDs with 4 picks, doesnt seem like he had much of a chance to prove what he could do for a first round pick, a strange situation for such a high pick QB.....

    Hey defva.

That is the problem with young players and a stinker of a game. However, sometimes it is easier said than done to just get back up on the proverbial horse and have a short-term memory when things go bad. However, that is just how it has to be in the world of sports or really any event that carries weight in this life. For me, for example, it would be teaching. I can not let a bad lesson deter me from marching forward to rectify my issues. I have to self-reflect, adjust and move on while learning from my mistakes. We all have situations like that in our lives. How we all handle them however, is completely on an individual basis.

Sometimes, such as in Mason's case, maybe a little time away from the "storm" is also a good strategy. Sometimes, trying to rush back up on the horse right away without any analysis of what went wrong is no good either. I am for giving Lynch a chance if Duck follows the same path as Mason did: Clunker Browns' game followed by same old stuff in the next game against the Bengals before he was yanked for Duck.

Mason may be more refined now in some ways with the respite time at trying again to become the driver behind the wheel. I do not like Musical QBs at all. Unfortunately, as time is running out of the regular season, we have not been able to establish who is the answer at QB. We really probably will not know until next season. Meanwhile, back in the land of the present, we are as I say still "Significant" in regards to a playoff spot and have to figure this QB thing out. We have two regular season games to do that.

We have no sample size on Lynch. What can it hurt to see what he can do? All three are basically operating from the same point right now...mediocrity. At least Mason and Duck. Once again we do not know what Lynch brings to the table in a Steeler uniform. That is my "Pro-Argument for Lynch". What can he do as a Steeler. As so often stated in sports: "Sometimes a change of scenery is what the doctor ordered for the player". We just have to figure this out now out if we hope to get to the playoffs and win the Super Bowl. Yes, I said the win the Super Bowl. If we can get all of our "O" weapons back and healthy, then it comes down to one factor.... the QB.

Lynch was pretty good at memphis. He got better by the year. He will probably be in camp next year I would think to compete. Doubtful he plays this year. Emergency only.

How many qbs has Elwood been through? Get these guys an oline, receivers and a full-time good qb coach and see what happens.

Yeah, all lynch needs is a chance, Denver traded up in the draft to get him and then didnt even try to make him a starter mainly because of their sorry HC vance joseph, he's only 25 years old and has the best chance of replacing Ben if they handle him right, he had a good pre season with seattle and here we are with a couple of scrub QBs messing around going no where.....

It wouldn't hurt to keep Lynch around during the offseason and let him battle it out with Rudolph and Hodges in preseason 2020. Worst case... he sucks and he can move on with his life's work. Best case.... he becomes our new franchise QB when Ben leaves.

    He diamond.

That is the point I was making earlier. I know we are basically out of time for the regular season. However, we still have way too many questions at our QB position. I still stand by my post earlier in that give Lynch the start against the Jets. At least this way, we at least have a sample of his work, as small as the size may be. As I stated in another post: "Sometimes a change of scenery is what the doctor ordered for the player". I am curious to see what Lynch can do as a Steeler. On the other hand, I am a little wary of this because Mason did get a second chance after his Browns' "game clunker" and we probably should offer the same respect and courtesy to Duck. However, if we go that route, and Duck starts to stink the joint up, put Lynch in, and if he does well, let him start the regular season final game.

I think people forget that the team that went into the playoffs as a wild card was not the same one that went 12-4 in the regular season.

Ben was still recovering from the severely sprained ankle. (His play was poor the previous 2 games.)
Woodley had a bad hamstring for the 2nd half of the season. (Wasn't 100% for the playoff game.)
    Starting safety (Clark) out.
    Starting center (Pouncey) out.
    Starting running back (Mendenhall) out.

If it wasn't for the big plays (and 20 points) given up in the 2nd Q, the Steelers would have won that game easy.
It is unfortunate that Ike Taylor had a bad game on that date (Demaryious 4 rec, 204 yards), and that the defense overcommitted to defend against the run.
(Also, Arians should have gotten more than 23 points out of that offense.)
(Also also, the altitude in Denver is a huge home game advantage.)

Da Bears had a decent run game but not much of a defense that year. Glennon didn't beat us, we played down.

It would certainly be a feel good story for us to go to the playoffs and win a championship, but realistically we have to accept that this year will be lost in the dustbin. We definitely made great strides in defense and with some additions to the offense we will be contenders in 6 months. I am surprised that we didn’t take a look at some guys that are out there like JT Barrett, Braxton Miller or Cardel Jones from Ohio State. I realize they struggled after college but they all won at OSU, and it’s always competitive there. But who knows, maybe we’ll win our last two and look for some miracles.
