That's not the only reason. Another reason is that he made poor decisions.

So after Johnson catches the ball Pickett should run down the field and help him into the end zone

    Let me repeat

    Johnson 86 catches Zero TD

George Pickens was able to score 4 touchdowns with the same quarterbacks on 5/8 of the throws

Those of us who actually can analyze football can see DJ failed miserably and regressed while Pickett got better

Heck by the end of last season Pickett was much better than Ben was at the end of his last season

Saying Pickett was better than Ben is not saying much. That's like saying getting a D over an F is a great job.

You all just don't want to say anything wrong about Pickett you desperately grasp at straws to not blame him for anything. Can't wait for next season. My main thing I want to see if Pickett is this guy SOME(not every single person) people on this board have been telling me he is.

It has been pointed out in nearly every game day thread this past season that Diontae's run after the catch at times was so mind numbingly stupid that it was almost beyond comprehension. I know that the drops have been debated ad nauseum but either way, this is not how one would describe a true #1 receiver. As someone else pointed out, just because he's the Steelers #1 doesn't necessarily mean he would be many other teams #1.

Although, I have heard that Pickett has a magnetic personality. Maybe Diontae is mysteriously drawn back towards the line of scrimmage after the catch

    This is correct

You also clearly are recognizing quarterback play increased and Johnson’s play decreased

No way around it that is on Johnson and not the QB

He (G. Pickens)wasn't on the team with Ben. LoL. Can't catch TDs if Your not on the same team.
Although You are backing up what I'm getting at. Not all Qbs see the field the same. Same reason AB played with 6 other Qbs on this team, and never caught a TD , and only had one 100 yard game by any other, but Ben on this team....So did AB just magically suck everytime Ben didn't play????...., and same reason I wanted to wait for paying DJ.....to see How He fit with the current Qbs.

i did not downplay route running - if that is what you heard. I said that is all DJ does great and Pickens can improve, but that is no reason NOT to throw him the ball.

To your point and I pointed it out in the Juju thread, as great a game as Mahomes played in the SB he wasn't flawless and at least once he locked in on Kelce that led to a doink on a field goal attempt and he missed Juju streaking up the sideline. There was talk about Brady and Edelman and how one made the other and he wasn't that good. The Pats schemed to get Edelman open in space and let him work, most of the time the rest was just to get Edelman open and Brady missed some open receivers downfield but he'd go to Edelman time and again because he was open and room to gain the 1st down. the QB can often make or break a receiver.

No not you Mikey. Don’t feel like looking back through 11 pages to find who it was.

But it’s not all he does great. He had a down year, his YAC and TD’s specifically, he still had a good amount of receptions. As usual, perception doesn’t live up to reality, people are saying he has never been good with YAC, not true, the two seasons prior to this one he was very good at it, on par with the likes of Diggs and Jefferson.

He’s a very talented WR, I don’t think Steeler fans appreciate how good this guy can be. Unfortunately the Steelers retained the guy who was the biggest culprit for Johnsons numbers being down. It’s infuriating that a guy like Bieniemy is interviewing for a lateral move with the Commanders while the Steelers are sticking with Mr. Saturday offense.

ESPN has him ranked top 5.

Did you read it? Explains it in there. Clearly he didn’t have the 5th best season last year.

This is why he gets so many targets, no DB can stick with him with moves like these.

This is great and all, but where are his backward running drills?

What good is a number 1 WR without a QB that can execute an offense at a high level? Johnson has the ability to be a 1 WR. Johnson proved that he can do it all as a WR. He beat number 1 CB's and zone coverages. He still has a lot to learn as a WR. He will only reach his peak when his QB reaches his peak.

The 20 TD catches Johnson has for his career disagrees with your assessment.

If KFP takes a step forward.....which I expect He will.....all of our weapons, and Oline will take a step forward with Him.

The inconsistency, poor decisions while running with the ball, and the drops are not the fault of the quarterbacks. The guy has such great footwork while running routes, but it is absolutely terrible on sideline catches. He either fails to get both feet in when he seems to have room or focuses so much on his feet that he can't hold on to the ball.

Johnson is very good. He gets targets because he gets open, but he has regressed in running after the catch and he makes some killer mistakes.
