Haley's contract expired so it's not really the same.

This is why we are mediocre, because our coaches are and they still have job security

It is what it is defensively as they are not going to build a top tier defense in a year or two without diving into free agency (assuming they sign guys who flourish here). Shazier is done so that is a reality. Barring a miracle I just can't see him returning. So with him out of the fold that means that over the last 10 drafts, 7 1st round selections were on defense. With Shazier out now only 2 (assuming Watt is legit) are really star talent (the other Heyward). Hood and Jarvis Jones were complete busts. Dupree and Burns seem to be headed in that direction. Is it possible that they just drafted duds that projected athletically but don't have it upstairs to complete the package, absolutely. The only way to tell is if they go elsewhere and succeed or fail.

Depth is a huge problem with this team with the cap. But depth can't get solved if 1st rounders can't beat out a 39 year old former UDFA.

Despite the hand you are dealt as a coach you are expected to keep your end going. The Patriots lost Hightower on a defense void of stars yet their defense still got better. We lose Shazier and the wheels fall off. Coaches can't be overlooked or treated with complacency.

Hopefully the team will improve whichever way they go so we can both enjoy another championship season. Go Steelers!

I just don’t get that. I guess Tomlin wasn’t watching Sunday’s game. Even though he had front row seats!

When Shazier was healthy, Jags had an 8min drive in the 4th qtr, 12 straight running plays. Ended in a FG to go up by 14.

It could be debated that Butler does does not even run/call/scheme the defense.

Dupree will never get back to anything because he was never much to begin with. In 2016, he didn’t even play til the 10-11th game of the season. When he did play well this year, he was cleaning the scraps from 50’s Havoc.

And I feel safe to say that a lot of what Watt provided this year, he already got from his family and from instinct.

I wholeheartedly agree that we have no safeties that have any ball awareness/timing. It’s not even a matter of bad hands.

I don’t think the D can be fixed with one draft.

And it’s all due to the one who is pulling the D strings. He’s not afraid of failure and we know this because we see failure every postseason no matter how much talent we have.
