The days of a great defence completely shutting down a high powered offence is gone, that's just not going to happen in today's NFL. With that said, San Fran took down the greatest offence the NFL has ever seen, and it appears the Giants are going to take down GB, another ridiculously high powered offence (I probably just jinxed them). All this talk about defences being not as important as before is a bit premature perhaps. The NYG are winning due to their pass rush and their defence getting turnovers. Putting up 30+ points helps of course. San Fran won the same way, a great pass rush and turnovers.

Defences are just as important as before, but the concept of defence has changed. Now, the focus needs to be on a pass rush and creating turnovers. Being #1 in yards against and points against really doesn't matter if you don't have a pass rush or create turnovers.

Really? I've never seen a team win a game by not scoring.

I think you missed my point. In today's NFL, it's just not possible to shut down the likes of GB, NO, NE, etc. You can limit them, but you can't stop them. That's why turnovers and pass rush matter the most.

Amen brother! I think its funny that Bouchette's article came out today that Defense no longer wins championships. 3 out of the 4 remaining teams are fueled by their Defense.

Here's to the Giants smacking Flacco or Brady around during the Superbowl

Did the 2000 Ravens win a game without scoring an offensive touchdown?

I think we played the jaguars one year with tommy maddox and i think we lost that game because of two pick sixes by Mathis...just saying...

The point I'm trying to make is that you have to score to win. You can have the greatest defense in the world and hold teams to 10PPG but unless you score more than them you aren't going to win.

It was unfortunate the Steelers Defense couldn't come up with any turnovers and sacks whatsoever throughout the season, this would have given the Steelers offense a short field to work with for a change....

You've all got it wrong. Goodell wins championships - or at least Goodell's CHOICE wins championships.

Everyone said the fix was in for GB and NO to win due to their high powered offences, yet both lost. Now you guys have changed your conspiracy theory to the 49'ers and Ravens. Seriously, Baltimore is a very small market team, there's absolutely no reason why anyone other than Baltimore fans would want Baltimore to win. Goodell isn't fixing games, get over it

I've NEVER said that there was anything fixed about GB and NO. I've said since the first Ravens/49ers matchup that something smelled fishy. They're the teams that I thought would end up making it if Goodell had his way.

I would love to see the 49ers and their Cowher style of play win a Championship.
