Thats true richard, but the list of guys that can get us decent field position isn't that long. Being that Davis was brought in primarily as a kick returner begs the question who is going to do it now

If it is true that Davis was primarily brought in as a kick returner, it begs the question why that was done in the first place. He was brought in to compete for the back up running back spot and lost to Watson, simple as that.

Because we need a solid kick returner and Davis fit that bill. It wasnt
his career average of 3.2 yards a carry as a back up rb.In case you missed it Connor was drafted to be the back up rb and potential replacement for Bell.

Didn't miss it. Perhaps you missed the rule changes that have virtually eliminated kickoff returns.

Does this mean Terrell Watson has possibly punched in his ticket?

So only 3 RBs? Assuming Bell is actually going to play. Bell, Watson, Conner? Risky with Bell acting a fool. I would have kept Davis and definitely cut Crossiant.

I would cut both Davis and Toussaint and add Watson.

I agree he's acting a fool too. But we might get an actual season out of him as he's pandering to the owner audience this year. He's done here or atleast should be. The 3? They might be plenty and I hope Watson is there per this suggestion. Davis wasn't gonna hack it and while from a scenario perspective I could dig croissant his time has passed as well. The way I see it, is with Conner and Watson as was with D Will, we actually have RB's that can spell Bell... Hope they include them. Bells wheels need to be ran off for sure, but they'll need him so hopefully they're smart. I think Conner and Watson might surprise us this year if they're actually utilized.

As I expected. It would have been a terrible decision to keep him on the team.

This isnt great data for the argument.

Teams are actually kicking the ball short to try to tackle the return man before the 25. I'm surprised the percentage didn't actually go up

You would have to go back a couple of years when they moved the kickoff ahead to whatever it is the 25 or 30 compared to when the kickoff use to occur at the 20.

Doesn't change the fact that Davis was not signed solely to be a kick returner. Doesn't change the fact that teams, rightly or wrongly, don't dedicate roster resources to kickoff return men. Doesn't change the fact that Davis wasn't any good at returning kicks this pre-season (6 for 109; 18.17 yard average). Doesn't change the fact that lamenting the loss of Davis and the lack of a clear cut, obvious player who return kicks instead is wasted energy.

I don't know... Watson seems like another Isaac Redman. Is that what we really need?

Oh hell yes. If he is another Redzone talent wise we will be blessed. Red ran very well until he got hurt.He had 100 yard receiving game as well .It took him a long time and a lot of health to earn his spot and when he finally did I think he was already damaged .His NFL time was cut short because of those circumstances we never got to see that hungry, healthy, strong willed, power RB that he was going to be .

My predictions on Red never came true ,but he did when a camp spot,he did become a starter and he did pound the rock when he was healthy .I wish he could have stayed injury free and every person would have seen what he was really capable of .

That kid had power and desire that was unmatched at the RB position, never would have been a home run hitter , but we all so those 15 and 20 yard gains he broke off abusing would be tacklers.

The reason I like those types so much is they wear down DB'S who have to try and tackle them, if you wear them down they can no longer cover as good late in the game . Impose your will so to speak . As I use to Coach our Corn Fed RB'S, They will get tired of tackling you before you get tired of running .

We ran a kid like that in this specific game I remember he had like 50 yards on 20 or so totes going into the 4th. In the 4th. he ran for like 180 and 3 or 4 scores ? . It was glorious to see we pounded those guys into submission.

I am not apposed to a similar thing from the Steelers..

Was I the only person who read the thread title and for a second thought it meant Sean Davis, and was like: wow, Tomlin is really mad with the secondary...?

If Bell plays up, I'm not sure there is a huge difference between those guys and someone we could pick up off the PS. I wouldn't keep extra RBs when it would be more beneficial to keep more DBs.
